Default Blue Sub 6 too short?

Got to watching Blue Submarine No.6 again and I can't help but feel like there's soo much more to that show we don't get to see. They did a great job and told the whole story in just 4 episodes, but I kinda wish there was more of it to watch.

Anyone know if the manga elaborates on the events a little more, or if there's additional content out there?

I have neither seen the OVA or read the original manga, but I did some googling in Japanese to see what the Japanese say about in terms of manga vs OVA for Blue Sub 6.

Apparently, the manga only had 3 volumes, with its last chapter finished in 1967. On the contrary, the OVA had 4 episodes, and was produced in 1998.

So yea, you probably aren't missing much in terms of the storyline or events by opting for the OVA and skipping the manga. However, there are some alterations of the storyline in order to make the OVA more consistent to the time (2000s as opposed to 1960s).

OVA: Human overpopulation, rising of the sea level, and the deterioration of the environment have pushed the humans to explore a new frontier--the ocean--and to build a new world there. As a result, a supernational organization, "Ao (Blue)", is created to patrol and safeguard the seas. However, a genius scientist, Zorndyke, creates his own terrorist organization to rebel against Blue, and proclaims that he will employ "biological weapons" to annihilate the human race.
(Well, you've seen the OVA, so hopefully this isn't news to you...)

Manga: With the destruction of the ozone layer, the humans fear that they will be forced to retreat into the seas for survival. The UN creates an organization, "Blue", to pioneer the water and safeguard the migration of humans from the land into the sea. However, at the same time, a blind wack-head, Zorndyke, decides that he wants total control over the ocean, so he creates his own terrorist organization "Geos(?)" to disrupt the UN's plan.

So the man difference is the scenario, as well as character development. Apparently Zorndyke is a lot eviler and a much bigger "final boss" in the OVA. But that's all I have to offer. Yes, I was bored so I researched all this just now =D

Thanks for checking that out. I appreciate it.

However, about Zorndyke in the OVA, I can't help but feel he isn't as much an evil b*stard. Yeah, he ended the world, but he still left the choice open between the remaining humans and his hybrids to get along. IDK, I've got about a 100 different questions about it that aren't resolved even though the book seems closed.

Yep, that's what I meant by "character development". In the OVA, you supposedly learn a lot more about him, and he also gets more screen time. He ended the world......? =x That was unexpected lol, I was expecting the Blue to successfully forestall his plans or something. I guess everything after that is left to your own imagination.

To clarify a bit, in the OVA Zorndyke has already shifted the magnetic poles and melted the ice caps, so most the world is underwater to begin with. The Blue teams are more on a revenge mission than on a save the world mission, since most of the world's already under water anyway. It's a rather interesting post-apacolyptic setting, sense most are usually nuclear war induced.

You can watch the OVA here if you want. No, you can't. Please see the rules. -Aku
