When did you learn the word 'anime' ?

Surely most of the otakus today have been watching anime way before they could realize what they were watching. So when did you learn what you loved watching so much was called 'anime' ?

Despite having started watching anime in the early 90's, ~1990/1991, I didn't hear the term until the mid-90's.

when i was young i didn't even realize some of the stuff i was watching was anime.

I think I first heard the term anime in the late 90's... I watched a few shows before that but I hadn't heard the term until I watched Princess Mononoke.

9-10 ....but I have watched anime since I was like 4 years old.
Too bad I didn't study English at that age ^^

I've been watching it since the SailorMoon era. Didn't learn the term until I was in 7th grade when I discovered InuYasha and the world of Adult Swim.

I was so young I'd go to bed. Set my alarm to whenever InuYasha aired then go back to sleep. My grandpa thought I was crazy ;____;

Some time when I was in middle school, about 2001-2002 I believe...I was Googling shows I had watched as a kid, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Escaflowne, etc, and the word "anime" kept popping up. When I did a search for it and found out most of my favorite shows were anime, that's when my fandom started.

I've been whatching animes since i was 4 (my first was sailor moon i think xD ...*sighs* still love that anime) but i only new what those unusual cartoons where when i was at 7th grade LOL
