Is the slender teenage boy the stereotype for the male anime protagonist, or is a fair to say itís the most common character archetype for the male lead?
Thereís a lot of anime out there, and I multitude of audiences they attract to, but I perceive the boy youth as most common when main characters come into play. Not that there arenít exceptions, such as Gene Starwind from Outlaw Star, Spike from Cowboy Bebop, and Roger Smith from Big O (lol generic name), but I canít help but sense the strong adult male lead is in short supply when compared to the majority of anime out there. And I donít mean ridiculous manly or macho, just a more adult male character one usually sees in western comics.
I know factors are involved, such as cultural preference and intended audience, but itís something I find myself pondering about.
