because the road was actually a highway and the chicken was suicidal. this being said the chicken did not actually cross the road, rather he ran out into the road being splattered by a car.

The owner of the car stopped and cleansed the front of his car from chicken remains. Meanwhile the chicken's son happened to be watching. This little chicken grew very angry at this man who had brutally slaughtered his father without feeling (from the chicken's perspective). This chicken then trained for years trying to grow stronger, his hatred grew and eventually the day came where he felt he was strong enough to extract his revenge. So the chicken with hatred as his only weapon rushed into the highway to slay this beast that had brutally murdered his father ... This chicken was also splattered. The chicken's son had been watching this entire time. This chicken became very sad that his dad had died. As he grew older he became even more and more sad, and one day even suicidal ... and that my friend is why the chicken crossed the road

they should make an anime following the above plot line lol
