Your Grammaticality

I usually write however I feel like at the time, so 5 minutes from now I could be writing like a lolcats caption.

Only time I try to purposely use incorrect or strange grammar is when I'm writing a fiction piece, and I try to use regional speech depending on where I set it/the character(s) backgrounds

I try to maintain reasonable grammar. But sometimes, either because I'm distracted by something, or because I make careless edits to my text, it occasionally ends up being complete word saladwiki. I think my most common grammatical error is to use "it's" where I should use "its". I know the rule, but for some reason I don't follow it.

Correct grammar is easier to read, looks better, and makes the world a happier place form me.
It saddens me that me, being a 15 year old DUTCHY has a better grammatical knowledge than the average American teenager.

I...have no idea if my grammar is accurate 100% of the time, but I do know that I am somewhat of a grammar nazi. I cannot stand reading improper or inaccurate grammar. The internet has somewhat dulled this, though.

In swedish it's nothing wrong with how I write, but my english is terrible at the moment but Im working on it.

I can add some more to this thread and say that I think that it has started to be a little to much talking about peoples grammar in this forum. As someone who hasn't english as the first language, being grammatically correct all the time is something that is more like a wish or a dream for me, then being an reality.



When there is this much talking going on about right or wrong grammar then people, who share the same situation as I do, become more and more unwilling to post anything in here. What's the fun with writing a post if you read the next minute in another thread that people are becoming tired of people like you? The end result is that people [who isn't as good in english as others in here are] will stop posting, and stop going online, thus will this site not be as "full of life"and active anymore as before. The irony in this is that the same people that I seen complaining about peoples grammar are many of the times also the same people that I also have seen complaining about how "dead" this forum have been sometimes. I understand if people who both speaks and write good english can be annoyed when reading something that is not living up to their standards, reading posts made of people that arn't as good as them. I do understand that completely since I myself can be little annoyed at people who arn't writing so good in swedish and I have to read and analyse, for example, their essays and such. But still, I don't think that this complaining that is going on more and more in here is the right way to go.

I am convinced that people most of the times are trying their very very best to type as well as they possible can for the time being. Because; why writing at a much lower grammatically standard then you are capable of when you are trying to have a convestation with people in here? Isn't it then more natural that people are trying the best they can? Because, why wanting to be missunderstood on purpose when having a conversation? That is what I like to think anyway, since I know that I for an example was much worse at english just some years ago - but have improved since then because I have been continued to practise it.

The thing you can do, in my opinion, if and when you are annoyed with someones posts with bad grammar is for an example to write something like "I didn't really understood you there, what do you mean? Can you take it again? " or " (after writing an answer) I don't know if you know this but there is a way to edit your posts if you see something that is wrong with them afterwards ^_^". That way you are saying in a more "nice way" that people need to look at their text more, I would at least want people to write something in that way to me.

One of the lasts time I was in the chatroom someone said to me a few times that my english was weird. Yeah, I understand that and I don't usually have anything against it either when people, after I have asked them, are correcting me. Because I want to learn and improve myself. But there are different way to handle us "non-english" people... This person just smear my defective knowledges in english in a way that I ---> interpreted <--- as fairly nasty. Maybe I was a little to sensitive back then at that moment I don't know... But still this person corrected my words and grammar all the time. The only thing he / she wrote to me was "the right spelling on a word". Nothing more, just how a word now and then (that I had wrote in a senctence) should look like, period. Not even a smiley (smilies makes it look better). As I already mentioned before I may have been a little to sensitive back then but I started to feel really bad about thw whole situation with the end result of that I stopped talking in the chat for that moment. My "wanting" (better word?) to write in the chatroom has since then dropped like a falling airplane. At the current moment, I don't think the chat is as fun anymore, even if that person maybe didn't mean anything nasty with it I still took it really bad. Those "bad feelings" that I had back then is still inside of me, since it was only a few days ago since it happened so it's not that particularyweird since it was so recently.


* So, I would like to send out this little message to you people that: Think a little more about what you are posting in here. As I said before: I understand if you get annoyed sometimes at us "non-english speakers" but there are nicer way to say things, so people don't have to feel bad about it. Like adding a smily to a post, that looks more friendly.




The reason I joined this site in the first place was mainly because I wanted to improve my english, and since then I have been posting in here now and then since 2007, with the result that my english have become much better then it was back when I first started here. As you can see in post #1263 in here http://www.animeforum.com/showthread...members/page51. But the fact is still that this partly happened because I continued to post in here and write in english, if I would've stopped going online here at all for some reason I doubt that I would be in the situation that I am in now (since I don't really write in english anywhere else then in here....).


... Oh! I don't really know what I wanted to say in this post... I don't want anyone to feel bad, feel angry, annoyed, or anything like that... So don't hate me or become angry at me when reading this! I just wanted to.. sigh, not sure. Just wanted this complaining that has started to escalate in here to stop perhaps. I am at heart convinced that people are trying to write in the best way that they can, but everyone is new in the beginning (especially younger members) so just give them time. As you people use to write to people in the fanart sections: Prastise makes perfect.

I know I'm not the most eloquent speaker or writer but I DO always try to use proper words and grammar in everything that I say or write.

If someone spells or pronounces something incorrectly, I tend to correct them. I'm a Grammar-Nazi...just a little. ><;

Only at school, I will fully apply myself. Otherwise, I don't really care how my writing comes out. Spelling errors happen to the best of us. Sometimes, I willingly write in a silly and fun way. Other times, I write lazily and replace the words "you", "are" and"see" with "u", "r" and "c" (and sometimes "y").

Grammar-nazis annoy me. I feel as though they only correct other people's mistakes to make themselves feel good.

i have never really had good grammar, and i am aware of it.
you have probably noticed i never even use caps when i type, and when i write by hand, i write in ALL caps :P
whatever though, people can understand me, and i can understand others. that's the point of language, right?? so that was always good enough for me.
english was always my worst class, followed by history. i was more of a math/science guy.

also, i've never been a fan of grammar/spelling nazis. i just look at them as elitists.

My main thing is forgetting how to spell words. I forget little things like if there needs to be an I or an E or two TTs or one T etc..

Sometimes my punctuation sucks donkey and I don't see it until after I finish.

Mostly I just don't try to be perfect about my grammar. I don't care about other people's grammar either because I am not a grammar nazi like that.

I try to use pretty good grammar, my keyboard, however, is very difficult, the spacebar doesn't work and the keys are hard to press so I make mistakes xD Sometimes I can't be bothered with capitals because it's difficult with this keyboard.
