Combat
Combat ships are ships that engage in battle, but also are often used for escort tasks, as well as defence.
Fighter
Fighters are the basic, cheapest, and most common ship among all races. They are fast, and can do good damage when mounted with the right guns. Usually Fighter class ships are piloted by one or two people, but some of the more powerful hybrid designs need a few more.
Frigate
Frigates are the thrust of the fleet. Although slower than Fighters, they are significantly more powerful, and still do not cost a large amount. This class of ship varies greatly, the size can range around 200 meters long, and the crew sizes can be a minimum of 15 or so.
Destroyer
These ships are for the captains and commanders who like speed and power. Destroyers have both, although weak for the capital class, they are the fastest, and exceptionally powerful. These ships are usually significantly bigger than frigates, but the variety is much smaller.
Battlecruiser
Battlecruisers- also known to be called Battleships, or simply Cruisers -are the most powerful of all ship clases in the capital class. They are praised for being the main punches in battle. Big enough to hold massive and strong weapons, however, it is also slow. It's armor is amazingly tough, which makes up for the speed.
Mothership
Motherships, also know as Seedships, are what one could call portable space stations. They can produce all the basic ships in these lists, have thick, strong armor, and basic defense turrets. There are a few downfalls to a mothership. For one, because of all the building sub-systems it carries, there is little room for large weaponry, thus only small turrets are able to serve as any defense. These ships are also incredibly slow, and are usually not move at all.
Recourse
Everything built in space need resources. Thus, there have been ships build specifically for the purpose of obtaining the materials.
Mining Frigate
The basic mining frigates are a bit larger than combat frigates, however, are faster due to more space for propulsion systems. They are mounted with several mining drills, or lasers depending on the racial origin, and have large cargo holds. Mining frigates have some defense, but usually very little.
Mining Barge
Mining barges are different from it's frigate cousin ship. They use the means of drones to mine the resources for them, and are also usually only a little smaller than destroyers.
Resource Station
These stations are smaller than average space stations, and serve only the purpose of refining the collected materials from ships. Thus, they buy at a higher price for ore than regular stations. These stations have little self-defense, but usually relies on defense fleets to protect it from attacks.
Non-Combat
Non-Combat ships are not usually meant for offense, rather for passive informational gathering, or other minor back functions.
Probe
Probes are small AI or remotely controlled space crafts that do nothing else but act as sensors. They have a huge range of sight in space and can gather much information. They are incredibly weak, however, but luckily also very cheap.
Civilian Transport
These ships serve as the transportation for average civilians. They have barely any weapons, and are very tough. The larger transports usually are mounted with hyperspace drives, due to being capital class at which point, providing even faster travel.
Cargo Transport
Cargo transports are frigate-sized ships that contain only cargo. Other than legally restricted to carry any civilians, it's basically the same as a civilian transport, only smaller, faster, and completely hollow with cargo decks.
Command Frigate
These frigates are rare, but they aren't rare enough to be considered. They have no mounted weapons and have nearly the sight of probes, only tougher. They have one unique feature, however, which is fleet-wide communications. Command frigates are like battle enhancers to all ships it is assigned to.
Superstructure
Superstructures are the largest artificially built structures that dwell in space. They can hold many people, fix the biggest ships, and hold the largest operations. They usually move very, very slow, if any movement is possible at all.
Station
Stations have many purposes, trading, living quarters, or even tourist attractions. They usually do not move and have little defense of it's own. However, they are extremely tough and have many uses.
Shipyard
Ship yards are basically stations with it's specific job. That job is constructing and docking ships. They are rest stops for pilots, and do not usually need a fleet to protect it because docked ships will usually do it's defending.
Research Hub
Research hubs are larger versions of stations built specifically for research. Whether it's area research or lab work, it is built much tougher, and houses many scientists and people of the like. They also are home to a significant amount of information to it's race.
Command Center
These large structures are somewhat like huge, immobile command frigates. They are the central hub of communications, missions, and such. Pilots often report to these stations to receive tasks. The command centers are also home to the race's official army
Inertia
Inertia, the greatest ship ever built. Although this ship is technically a non-combat civilian transport, it's so large it's widely considered a superstructure. The ship is the toughest, largest, and fastest (in it's class). It took many years to build, and was the most famous ship while it was running.
