OK! From what I can tell Anonymous did launch the attacks as I found a news report on anouther forum that one of their members was arrested. They are for some reason taking it out of Sony (Those dirty...) *Cough* *Cough* Escuse me. From what I can tell they are Asian (No duh) by looking at they're hair style. I rarely see that distinct hair style among American's and Europeans. They may be from Japan considering it was probably Sony's dueing on that member being arrested. This is pretty much a reveiw on what we know or may not know.

I'd like a link to that report.

Um, that has nothing to do with the current hacking and if you look it's dated February 21. That's not even remotely close to the time the attacking started.

Our current hack happened at the end of April and rolling into May and will probably last until the end of May.

Right now it's Sony that needs to be worried about being in ruined history considering they were running a massive online service with almost nothing protecting their consumers. While I hate the fact this is happening, Sony brought this war on themselves by trying to fight something that can't be stopped. You make it sound like they will lock up every hacker. The only reason they caught one guy is because they knew who he was. They didn't track him down. And they LOST that one. All they did was make him sign a paper to never do it again! That's a big L in my book.

True, true. If they don't fix it by june and not keep their promise by may. By the time final fantasy XIV is released is released for the PS3, they will not get any good news from square or other mmo companies that happen to be coming to the ps3. It just spells bad news for sony anyway you look at it. Its best they get those hackers off their back as soon as possible.

Personally, I agree with the hacker in the article you posted. If you buy it you should be able to do what ever you want with it as long as it isn't illegal. I think cracking a PS3 should fall under the new jail breaking ruling.

... Eidos and Deus Ex: Human Revolution websites were hacked by rogue Anonymous aswell.

According to a report on KrebsOnSecurity, the public websites for upcoming sci-fi title Deus Ex: Human Revolution and that of its publisher, Eidos, have been hacked, and a ton of information and code stolen.
Using logs from the alleged culprit's chatroom, KrebsOnSecurity says that among the data lifted were 9000 resumes, personal information from around 80,000 registered fans/users of Deus Ex's website and, most alarmingly for Eidos, there was talk of leaking the "src", which it's speculated could mean the "source" code for the game (though this seems unlikely, and they're probably referring to be the code for the websites).
What's interesting is that the group responsible seems to be the same one that turned on hacktivist group Anonymous earlier in the week, and in the wake of this attack, has itself splintered, its "members" turning on each other.

Your information is about a lack of protection is seriously lacking since all the reports of servers running outdated software were false since experts that sony brought in clearly reported that the servers were all running updated software.

No they moved very quickly from blaming anonymous to blaming anonymous for making them make their network less secure which allowed the other hack to then admitting that they had also been hacked a few months before but not as badly.

Anonymous' cyber warfare weapon of choice is the DDOS attack, which while annoying does absolutely nothing a servers ability to run proper security measures... in fact, a DDOS attack by itself actually makes hacking a server more difficult as the server cannot respond to the requests.

In short, Sony saw the threat from anonymous, and turned off it's own security. --- Sorta their own mistake right there.

Most people might sooner shut down the network than drop the security authentication measures. Sony waited three days to drop the network after dropping their measures, and then waited two or three more to tell their customers.

Also. They are treating a game system like a movie/song. When you purchase them you have rights to them but you can't modify them. Nor can you play them in public/burn/distribute them. [least you're not "supposed" to] When you buy a song you buy a license to listen to it. And thats what they are trying to put forth for gaming systems. You buy a right to play them and nothing else. But systems are not like songs. They are like computers. We have the right to do whatever we want with our PC's but not with a console. Honestly I really just want a feature that allows you to upload your own icon @_@ lol. Well I'm keeping my eye on PSN today to see when it goes up. IF it does.

I do believe it was completely stupid to remove Other OS, then again I understand why they did it. Sure, so far it was used as a homebrew application when you installed Linux in it, but it was an exploit to piracy, and it would hurt both Sony and the publisher/developers of games. It doesn't hurt the company in the way that it will gain less sales as pirates either way wouldn't have gotten the game anyways and legit buyers will always stick to buying their games. But I do believe is stupid as there's a lot of innocent people that they would only use it for their personal use. They can't just ban guns altogether as not everyone uses them to kill every person they see in their way, they use it for personal defense. But what I also believe is they should stick to "it does everything" as it doesn't and I believe hacks will enhance the use of system. I mean, only reason I still play my Wii is because I hacked it to be region-free, so I can import games like The Last Story, Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower and all those anime games that will never come here like Bleach and Soul Eater. And I also think homebrew is a good thing for programmers to develop their applications. So many pros for Hacking but it also has it's downs.

End of story is that both hackers and Sony have their cons and their pros. As for games, I think this is why DMR exist, but I wouldn't want a DMR on consoles...although EA/Sports and THQ kinda already added it, and Capcom with Final Fight.

Also, Sony are idiots for not taking drastic measures when the first attack occurred, now they screw all of us up. At least they learned their lesson.

To anyone who has gotten on:
Is it only possible to change the password after you`ve signed in?
I`m so confused by this now, since some say you get a notification on the mail you`ve registrered the account with, some say there should be an option on the sign in menu.
Edit: well maybe the notification mail comes after you`ve changed it on the ps3.
