What's your opinion about opinion threads? Do they annoy you, are they getting old or do you just think people need to be more original?

I like opinion threads that have some in depth to them Lately opinion threads lack the finesse I require in order to keep my attention.

The only real problem I've been having with opinion threads as of late is that people seem to state their opinions... and that's it. I can't see any fun in it if someone doesn't go out of their way to challenge someone else's opinion and start up a debate about it. It's like revving up a car and having it go absolutely nowhere.

Of course I'm not suggesting anyone start bashing another person's opinion or start a flame war, but it wouldn't hurt to try and spice things up a bit with a bit of conflict here and there.

Opinion threads are always dreadful unless specifically constructed to incite mischief and conflict. Misleading titles and premises, which give the appearance of an abominable assertion, like that dancing children should be strangled, are best paired with a relevant but meaningful and far less disagreeable actual opinion, like that dancing children look like animals that are being strangled, coupled with a mundane question, like whether or not there are other things people can think of that look like animals writhing in pain and panic. (It helps if you post a wall-o-text, since that causes many of the lazier, more impatient readers to work on assumptions and first impressions.) I and others have used this basic forumula with reliable success.

Alternatively, you can just turn any inane question away from its intended subject matter via a series of understandable but overall irrelevant digressions. That how I usually make my way from an old-hat pun to the moose ruling as the dominant species on the Earth, or from a question about alcohol tolerance to imperious demands that everyone make their way to a carnival for my amusement.

If you want a good thread, either make one with deception and madness in mind, or just post the responses of a syphilitic Alzheimer's patient.
