I'm not sure if anyone has already asked this, but I really want to know.

Why do people (mosly girls) seem to love posting pictures of themselves online in which they look absolutely hideous/disgusting? Are they proud of the disgust they cause people? Do they just think it's funny?

Maybe I think too politically, but I hate any picture of me that doesn't show me in a positive way. I mean, I really hate all pictures of me, but if I was ever going to share any of them, I'd only choose to show the ones that came out well.




To the people thinking I'm just trying to insult others, I'm specifically referring to pictures where people openly acknowledge they look horrible in. I'm not judging anyone. They judge themselves, I'm just wondering why post something if they don't like how it looks?

Well, beauty is subjective.

There are a couple explanations:

- They think the picture looks fine.
- They are aware it's not a good picture, but they upload it anyway.

As for the "proud of the disgust they cause people", that depends on if they are trying to "cause disgust". If they are, probably yes. If they aren't, probably no.

Also, as for why people post pictures and then say "oh, i'm so ugly in this", one, they might just want attention/validation (they don't believe they are ugly, but just want compliments), or two, they genuinely believe they are, and want to be told they aren't.

I can think of some reasons.

1. They're to lazy to delete it.
2. They want sympathy or any kind of attention.
3. They know nobody really cares so they don't think that anyone would comment anyways.
4. They think it's funny.
5. Maybe they're making their haters come to light.

Well, they're just my thoughts though. IDK if they're really that factual.

Anyways, I typically like posting funny pictures of myself that I'll share with my friends, and if anyone else sees it and has a negative opinion, I could care less.

I think people who posts pictures of themself saying that they are ugly are looking for some compliments by others to make them feel better inside.

I don't know.. I sometimes post pictures where I look horrible however there's a reason behind that moment or something so I may keep it online and say "lol I look so horrible here" Not for attention or anything but just because it's the bloody truth that I looked horrible in that picture. Nothing wrong with a bit of honesty.

@Sasorikiller well, I rarely see guys post pictures of themselves in which they say in the description "Man, I look awful" or something to that effect. I'm not being sexist. I'm simply making an observation.

@Serated I can see where my point may have been skewed, and I believe I have fixed that, but I'm not saying anything bad about anyone. I'm not saying the people are ugly. I'm not judging them. I'm saying they post pictures of themselves in which they look ugly. the people who post these pictures admit they look ugly in those particular pictures. They post them anyway. I feel like if you know you look bad, why would you post it???

First of all I wouldn't go out on a limb and say that girls "love" posting horrible pictures of themselves. That's a subjective POV, relative to whom you're dealing with. But, for all intent and purpose we say that they do post a horrible picture of themselves; could be for any number of reasons: Mayhaps they did it for a laugh, because someone dared them to, because they came home after drinking too much and wasn't thinking clearly. Hell, maybe they weren't the ones who did it in the first place. It would hardly be the first time some random person took your picture and posted it without your consent.



Okay, so let's say that a girl posts a picture of herself and says she looks horrible in it. Let's keep in mind that girls can be very sensitive about their appearances; IMHO, this holding true even more so when posting a picture online. What if someone doesn't like it? What if they start bashing on you 'cause of how your hair looked, what clothes you were wearing, etc. There will always be people like that, looking for something to rag on you about; even if it isn't true. That can be difficult to deal with, especially if you're a girl and you're sensitive to those kinds of things.

What's one to go about dealing with this? Simple. You get ahead of the game and say that you yourself look bad. What can anyone else say to you then? Not much, I would think.

That, that actually makes a lot of sense. One of my friends who is a girl says she does it because her friends make her do it. Apparently the picture is too funny not to post or whatever, but I actually really like your logic on this one. Thank you.

When posting pictures on social networking sites it's a matter of how much time people have to take photos, how capable they are of taking photos, how 'good' they look on a normal basis, and how much of a group of judgemental tards the people viewing the picture will be. To compensate for any of these variables that may be in the equation when posting the picture, people will add captions like "omg I look ugly in these!", making it acceptable for the picture to be posted.

In psychoanalysis, whether consciencely on unconsciencely, this thought process is simply an example of a person using idealizationwiki, dissociationwiki, undoingwiki, and/or anticipationwiki (in no specific order).

Most girls post so called "ugly pics" because they thought the pics were cute but they're really not. I have friends that some times post ugly pics of themselfs in their pjs and their hair all messed up and they think its cute.

I look bloody terrible in 99% of photos, but feel a desire to show how I look once in a while to sate people's curiosity.
So yeah, most you'll see of me are alright at best and I rarely take any at all.
