Default Just wondering about something.... (solved :3)

I guess lately I've been thinking "okay, we use this in Japanese and it would sound funny without it, but why is it there?" and that is what this is about. Direct your attention to the spoiler in my signature. This is a quote from Petite Cossette.... the first few paragraphs were written in the trailer, but the last two I had to write by listening. I think I got it right....
Anyway, it states in the last line "minasoko yori modosu koto wa dekinai no dakara".
I never really thought about this kinda thing before, but the "no" here you can't say works in the way of a particle, so I was wondering if here it functioned like "koto" which would kinda make sense. I know if the "no" wasn't there, it would sound funny but why it does doesn't occur to me. Input away!^^

My limited knowledge tells me that the stress particle (な)ん(だ) is a contraction of なのです. The 'no' in that is part of what you're referring to.

That's why ultimately, I space the stress 'n' out in my translits, because it's a particle.

What they call the "extended predicate", no/n is used to add on an explanatory tone.

btw Hikarin, are you sure the last line of the second-to-the-last stanza is 何の良くにたつの? and not 何の役に立つの?
I mean, I don't know what song it's from, but that would make more sense...

    Oh and, high-five to this:

Ah, yes, yes, I get it now^^ And I too separate "n" from other words which not many people do I notice....

Of course I'm not sure!XD It was a spur of the moment thing and it was all spoken so quickly. Plus the volume didn't go up very loud. I'll listen to it again when I get back home. Also, it's not from a song. It's the introduction to the first episode. My t/l of it in my siggy still makes sense either way I guess though O_O That's kinda funny!XD Although rather than it being "what good would it do" it should probably be "what good would I
    do".

You know, now I'm convinced it is yaku either way *goes to change*. Thanks^^

What the others are saying may be true, but there's also the fact that the "no" particle serves an alternate function: it transforms the clause belonging to the verb to which it's appended (in this case, "dekinai") more or less into a single entity within the sentence, which is thereafter treated about the same as if it were a single noun.

It's actually a little overused in this function, being put places where it's not really necessary. ("Nani wo shiteru no yo!?")

At least, that's about how I understand it. I'll admit I'm not overly familiar with official grammarian-style explanations.

Yes, no can definitely be used for that, but not in this sentence.

Un, that was my initial thought of how it might be used, but in this case it is used to explain a reason (which I should have picked up on.... ehehe ^^;).
Anyway, I really need to pay more attention O_O
