Eatin' Bone Marrow

I am basically a carnivore. If its made of meat, I'll probably eat it (unless it is something that will make my heart stop by simply looking at it).

But my love of flesh doesn't stop there. I also enjoy eating bone marrow (I am one of only a few people in my family who actually eats it). When I am done eating chicken, I will break the bone open and suck out the marrow. Some people find it gross, but I think its quite delicious. Beef marrow? I eat that too.

Anybody else eat bone marrow? Thoughts on it?

There are some animals that have larger bones and thus more bone marrow in them. They will scrape it out, cook it separately, and then serve it in halved bones. It's a delicacy in some places. I personally have tried it, but I didn't like it. It's all about perspective I suppose.

You can actually cook the bone till it's soft enough to eat. It's really good and filled with calcium.

I have never done that, but for some reason, I want to now. I love meats. My dad is a hunter, so I have gotten to have plenty of different and delicious kinds of meats in my life. I was actually wondering what guinea pig, cat, and dog taste like earlier today, so it's amusing to me that you made this thread.

Your mom is weird. Bone marrow (and other organ meats for that matter) are incredibly good for you. Since they are easy to obtain and very very cheap, however, people cast them aside as poor people's food and lose out on all of the vital nutrients you get that are NOT present in the muscle meat (meat that people are probably used to).

I like eating it too. I am a great meat eater myself so when I eat a chicken I eat the damn chicken! Feathers are an exception...

I actually like the bone marrow, I eat it in the soups my mom make. I honestly don't see whats so wrong with it, maybe its because I grew up eating those kind of food.
Its real nutritious and puts the flavour in the soups, too. It goes with any other food, if it looks good for me I'll eat it. ^^

eh.. probably not for me.

I'd try it once if I was at a restaurant and it was part of the meal though, but other than that, it doesn't appear appetizing enough.

When I first read it...I was kinda like...what?! lol But after fully reading the thread, I find it quite interesting. I love to eat a variety of meats but I have never thought about eating the marrow. It kinda grosses me out at the thought of eating it but I am pretty open minded and may try it one day. :3

I eat the marrow from beef or lamb bones but I've never eaten chicken marrow (knowingly). I like it best when it's been roasted.

I was forced to eat it ever since I was little so I guess it’s a habit now. I don’t mind though I find bone marrow to be pretty tasty if prepared correctly not to menchin it’s supposedly very good for you.

It depends. Bone marrow is packed with protein and calories, so you don't need much to make a good meal. A couple bones, like in the video, should be enough (with some toast or something). Then, after cooking the bones, you take a fork or a spoon (and there is actually a spoon that has been specially designed for this) and scoop out the bone marrow.

In most cases, however, one is usually eating something, like chicken, that already has a bone that can be easily broken (it doesn't take too much effort to break a chicken bone). In this case, you simply break the bone open and suck out marrowy goodness inside.

Always had. My family was so poor they couldn't afford anything else but bones in their soup. So the marrow inside had to do.

I love bone marrow. I also like eating the cartilage thing on the end of chicken bones. No food goes to waste, my friend.
It's pretty good if you roast it a bit, and add a bit of steak sauce.

The best way to get started is with chicken wing bones. The bones are easier to break than say a chicken leg. Also, it is easier (and more fun) to suck out the marrow in smaller bones.

But bigger bones, of course, have more marrow in them. And most people have seen the marrow and probably have eaten some without realizing it.



That red stuff on the inside? Marrow. Some usually seeps out during cooking so some people end up eating a little marrow anyway.
