Promotion?

Just a few hours ago my boss came to me and said he was going to give me a promotion. Cool I thought all my *hard work cough cough* is finally being recognized. But hears the catch I will haft to go back to school and take a few classes. This immediately dampened my mood, for the ones who don’t know me I really hated college the first time I did it and now he wants me to go back to that hell. I did my time, I told him that I would get back to him tomorrow. So I ask you all now what would you do if you where in my shoes take the promotion and the three dollar an hour pay raise and go back to school for 6 months. Or turn it down and stay where you are?

Side note: I already make more than enof to live on I don’t really have a need for the raise. Oh and my work would pay for the classes…well most of it.

Take the opportunity and educate yourself further. It may lead to even more opportunities opening up in the future.

I mean, not to be rude or anything, but is this really something you need to think about? $3 an hour extra is a lot of money, and it's not like you're going to really have to pay for the classes yourself really. I wish my company would pay for school for me.. >_>;

I am cretin for most people this wouldn’t even be an issue but that just gos to show you how much I despised going to college it was by far the worst time of my life. But I can see bouth of you points...I will haft to give this more thought.

I agree with Eris; $3 is a big raise and you should go back to college and take the promotion - it will do you good.

This isn't just about whether or not you are willing to go back to school. It also shows what you're willing to do for advancement within the company. You should go back to school, it's only for six months. It can't be that bad.

But then again, if you're absolutely convinced that you will have a time worse than hell taking those classes, then I don't blame you for not wanting to take them...

After some thought and taking in all of your helpful opinions I have come to a few realizations: It would not only be a bad career move not to take the position and go back to school but also a bad life move. I also believe I am just being apprehensive about it because of how bad my last college experience turned out to be and I can not allow that to stop me from making the correct decisions in life. I can only hope that this time my time spent in college is far more enjoyable.

Thank you all for your helpful advice it really helped me put things into perspective.

Life isn't easy man, you do what you have to do to succeed but in the end, the results are satisfactory. Honestly, 6 months...that doesn't hurt, right?
