What do parents owe their children?

Do they really owe them anything? With adoption available, parents can get rid of their unwanted children. Or should people not get rid of their children at all? If they created a child, should they have to take care of it, raise it, clothe it, feed it, pu it through school? Be the major part of its life for the first 18 years? So, what do parents owe their children?

It's not just us humans, some animals will raise their young until they're old enough to live independently. It's all up to the parents but given that the child was intentionally conceived or at least they're willing to accept responsibility in the case of an accident, it only seems right to raise the child at least until he or she has reached adulthood at the age of 18. Anyone can be a sperm donor or an egg fertilizer, but I believe the ideal parents should only hope that their children have just as good, if not a better life than they had.
