When venturing into new/unknown part of a town, what's your best tool/method to get you around/towards your destination?

I'm more onto reading simple maps/Google Maps and use my sense of direction to plan my route(s) to the intended destination. This might require some trial and error (wrong turn, illegal u-turn etc) to get to where I'm going. I\m also appreciate a navigator if he/she knows the direction to the place and don't afraid to ask the locals for direction.

Well, first off, don't travel alone. I'd be making a big mistake if I did that. -__-;;

If I am alone and lost, which is pretty easy for me to do, I just call someone for HALP.

When I'm traveling with family we most of the time use: maps or a GPS. But now we mostly use the GPS because its so much easier and we get more done. :]

But when I can finally travel on my own. (If I could separate from my family for a few hours that would be awesome :]) I'm thinking of just walking around by to see if I can find what I'm looking for/see where I end up. Usually all the awesome things that happen to me happen by accident. :]

Ordinance Survey make the best maps so i'd never go anywhere without one. yes this is a plug for an excellent product which i can give my personal guarantee that no matter how bad your sense of direction is normally you won't get lost with an O.S map.

Google maps are first on the list. If that doesn't work, then the co-pilot/navigator is up. That way I can blame them in case we get lost. >=D
If worse comes to worst, I usually stop at a gas station to ask for directions. Hopefully someone who has teeth or at least dentures, unlike the last guy I asked. -___-

I would: Go for instinct, then get lost, then get some halp. A potato has a better sense of direction than me O.o

GPS if possible, otherwise normal maps help too. I'm good at reading maps

I thought reading road sign is part of having sense of direction as most of the time the destination is not shown on the sign. You must intuitively choose which junction/route you want to take with/without the help of a map.

Let's see...I would probably use a map to get to where I need but it's not like they have a specific map for a specific location right? >>
I would probably ask someone for directions too, if I am traveling alone.

I always ask for directions as I'm not afraid to ever do so like that, lol! ^^
