I guess the word "poser" plays in well with any "stereotype", but it's not always true for all people. Some people base their inferences of poser for the fact that they don't fit the MAIN stereotype category -- living in the projects, being a certain race or not talking the way they're supposed to. I think it's dumb. If someone wants to be someone else for the fact that they feel more in tune with that subculture, let it be. For others using it as a way to find acceptance, they'll grow out of it.

While I'm not particularly annoyed with the style itself, it's the general attitude of the people that wear it that annoys me, and even then only if I'm forced to interact with them. Most of them are pretty ignorant of the fact that the majority of the style is ripped straight from prison culture(no belts in prison+one-size-fits-all uniform=baggy clothes with pants hanging off you, doo-rags because combs aren't allowed in prison and they need to keep their hair tidy, Timberlands because they're an affordable, durable work boot so many states buy them for the inmates, etc.) so when a cop or someone in authority that IS aware of this treats them with a level of suspicion, they act like a victim because they don't understand THAT THEY LOOK LIKE AN INMATE ALREADY.


Granted there's been an evolution in the style as time progressed, but the basic framework is still there. Hell, even jogging suits are a throwback to 80's mobsters.

This thread is turning into a "DIE" thread.

Living in the suburb of Cleveland, lately a lot of wannabe gangstas have invaded my turf. They walk around as if they rule the world. I've seen rich kids put on the "bling" and start the ghetto talk-it's not a pretty sight.

Lots of kids are trying to fit into a certain label. They have the "emos" "jocks" "preps" "ghetto's" "metal" "freaks" and any other stereotype. What irritates me is when people take to heart that label and conform to it. They reach in, grab the clothes, soon the attitude, and then they believe they are the truth. Sometimes the kids that dress "punk like" are the kids who do not believe in that particular mind frame. They think they look col in the clothes. I'm fortunately not familiar with the "ghetto" scene since I'm not to bad off money wise. But it bothers me that some people think that that particular life style is "cool" and interesting and so they act as if they are part of that lifestyle even though they are not poor. It's as if they are mocking and making fun of those people.
