Hey just finished SOA and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Was hoping to find a new anime maybe more along the lines of Elfen Lied. Darker tone and what not, I think what I really enjoyed about Elfen Lied was Lucy, she was just a character I loved. Thanks.

GAI-REI-Zero. Great anime.
Code Geass.. You have to watch it! Its so good! :)
I've seen Code Geass and I agree it was great. Just finished Ga Rei Zero and I really enjoyed it. Not a huge fan of the ending but has little to do with the anime as it has to do with me rarely enjoying an anime ending :P thanks guys.
Y'know, I was drawn to Elfen Lied for its dark, serious tone and I have to say that I haven't ever found anything else quite like it. There have been a number of darker anime that I've enjoyed over the years, but nothing that quite matched Elfen Lied for supernatural horror and mood whiplash.
Off the top of my head, I think Gungrave did pretty well, changing "Godfather"-style mobster action for supernatural elements (you can argue the Weird Science is supernatural, but I think the themes are WAYYY more Crime Fiction than Supernatural).
Honestly, the dark, mature themes of Elfen Lied would seem to be more common in American Live Action TV than anime - if you haven't already, take a look at Buffy: the Vampire Slayer or its spin-off Angel. You can also look into Supernatural, which has more fan service for the ladies than guys, if that's a selling point for you. ;) And if you want something less fantastical, you could always look into HBO's Six Feet Under or Showtime's Dexter.
Hope that helps!

Check out Deadman Wonderland, dark, gritty, and pretty graphic, seems like this one might be right up your alley!
"Those Who Hunt Elves" should do ya
Like someone recommended above u shoukd watch and read deadman wonderland. It's surprising just how similar the story is to Elfen Lied. Anime is only 12 episodes and doesnt get into the meat of story so u will have to read the manga also but once u get around chapter 50 of manga u will know what I mean when I say it's surprising how similar story is to elfin lied.
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Elfen Lied is touching right? So keep your tears and get ready for sweat. It's mysterious, terrifying and you don't know what's so mysterious and terrifying in the first place. So, it's perfect.
