World Health Organization Releases Data on Worldwide Alcoholism
And you're stereotypical countries aren't even in the top ten.
Quote:
The report provides country profiles for alcohol consumption in the 194 WHO member states, looking at the resulting impact on public health and policy responses.
And it reveals that the harmful use of alcohol causes 3.3 million deaths a year worldwide.
Europe is the region with the highest consumption of alcohol per person, making up the entire top 10.
But who makes up the top ten?
-Belarus – 17.5 liters
-Republic of Moldova – 16.8 liters
-Lithuania – 15.4 liters
-Russian Federation – 15.1 liters
-Romania – 14.4 liters
-Ukraine – 13.9 liters
-Andorra – 13.8 liters
-Hungary – 13.3 liters
-Czech Republic and Slovakia – 13 liters
-Portugal – 12.9 liters
The Australia is at 12.2, Ireland at 11.9, Germany at 11.8, UK at 11.6 liters, Canada at 10.2, US at 9.2, and the Global Average is a 6.2. Why at 6.2? "Northern Africa and the Middle East, the average figure is less than 2.5 litres of alcohol per person, with many countries having figures below one litre. "

Re: World Health Organization Releases Data on Worldwide Alcoholism
Interestingly, I do remember watching a documentary on the end of the world. Where even if the overall infrastructure fails, alcohol will be one of the main items that will survive to be immediately recreated and survive human catastrophe.
Or, more succinctly: alcohol, alcohol never changes.
