Cops Taser, Arrest Innocent Deaf Woman

A deaf Tacoma woman who called police to report an assault in her home says she was instead tased by officers and jailed for three days without access to an interpreter, as required by Washington state law.
Lashonn White says the officers who responded to her 911 call were told repeatedly she was deaf and could only communicate through sign-language, an interpreter and a special video equipped phone.
According to the 911 transcript, a dispatcher told White to wait outside her apartment complex for two Tacoma police officers — identified as Ryan Koskovich and Michael Young.

We're cops. Let's not use our brains and try to figure out who's the perp and who's the victim ... that would be silly.
To "Protect and Serve"? i'm going to go with a "no" on that one ...
Re: Cops Taser, Arrest Innocent Deaf Woman
And then I go out and have a hard time finding a job. Where do these idiots get hired?

With the exception of any good, intelligent people that become police officers, it doesn't seem like a large amount of effort or intelligence is required to be hired as police officer ... i've heard of abusive husbands becoming police officers just to gain authority. It seems that most police officers just love to abuse the power and authority they are given ... like glorified hall monitors; doing things because they can.

At this point it's, yeah, yeah, next story.

Horrible but true.
Re: Cops Taser, Arrest Innocent Deaf Woman
Also, a reputation I received (edited) from someone who was a little too afraid to leave their name (preferably because they're new):
"Go eat a ___ and stop generalizing people based on the actions of a few."
Thanks, but i'm not hungry.
Also, I don't believe I was generalizing, but rather explaining what these particular cops were like; if you actually read my post above, hence the "With the exception of any good, intelligent people that become police officers" ... I didn't say ALL cops were like this. I'm sorry you feel personally offended because you lack comprehension skills.

80% are corrupted, is that any surprised to you? I guess power does really get over their heads. I mean obviously like you said, there's sensible cops but a lot of them are just pain corrupted. Too much discrimination going around.
Oh and..
Off-topic, that person who left you a rep is not new at all....2010 and with quite a few posts.

Not surprising at all.
And oh really? I am too poor for the "See who left reputation" thing, unfortunately.

Re: Cops Taser, Arrest Innocent Deaf Woman
haha the irony of the situation is just ridiculous.
Question, she's deaf and used a phone. How did she hear the other person answer?

She had an interpreter.

Next question, the things she said about the person beating her were all in present tense. how do you use sign language while getting beat up?
The whole thing just seems kinda fishy to me. Then again i am quite the insensitive bastard when it gets to things that don't involve myself or those close to me. If the officer had no description of the perp and saw a frantic woman come storming out of a building possibly making unintelligible noises. With the only hard knowledge he had being that there was an assault on a deaf woman inside that building, it makes it a little much to jump straight to "Police brutality" since there is no proof the officer did it (for a lack of better terms) sport.
However, her treatment over the next 3 days is unacceptable.
Hey Police,
you get a wag of the finger

Re: Cops Taser, Arrest Innocent Deaf Woman
Fortunately, only idiots voluntarily engage in "law-enforcement" activity. We're mostly counting on them to either see reason or get KIA.
Re: Cops Taser, Arrest Innocent Deaf Woman
Most deaf people can talk, for goodness sakes. She probably called the police, said what she needed to say and hung up. That would make the most sense. Although maybe she should have explained that she is deaf.
EDIT: Okay, I watched the video, so she usd a special phone to call 911 and was answered by an interpreter. That's your answer Kale.
Re: Cops Taser, Arrest Innocent Deaf Woman
I will agree that this was horrible, and the some police officers do abuse their powers, but as many of my relatives are in Law Enforcement I can say that not all of them are bad people. It's like any other job really, you get the good with the bad.
There are officers that want to Protect and Serve, like my family, people that actually care about what they do, then there are the ones who want that power, that authority and abuse it when they get it. I've met quite a few police that are that way, and I have hated them all.
