Its odd how boys look like girl, eh? So me and my sister tell some people if it is or not, how can we be so sure it is a boy or a girl? Well... My sister is really good at telling and she refuses to tell me and rejects me asking, "How can you tell?" Well, maybe! If anyone new, just anyone >_> i could be part of telling with my sister how it works... SO i know that was not the point but just one question...

Another problem is if you're reading.
Usually I can tell if it's a boy or a girl . . . if they say things such as "he" or "she." Even "him" or "her" works.

It's really simple. I'll try to be a smart person and answer your question and maybe I will succeed.
Well since you're talking about anime characters, boys sometimes are really feminine. But if you say that your sister says that from just the picture, then it's really clear.
You should look at nail length, forms, chest, hands and face. Clothes usually help too. When painting a boy, even if he is feminine, the face won't look as cute as painting a real girl.
1. The form of face differs- Females usually have smaller faces than males.
2. Males eyes are usually painted smarter(mysterious gaze, eyes not so big) than girls eyes, because somehow the artists only look at girls as some "Cute objects"
3. I think chest difference is clear to you.
4. I never saw anime boy with long nails, did you?
5. Girls hands are smaller and more fragile than boys.
6. If the character is in a similar pose to the picture in your signature, It's NEVER a boy.

Although I am at a loss as to understand why you have difficulty distinguishing boys from girls, it's really quite simple. You go up to them and ask them; and after they arch an eyebrow and give themselves a once over to make sure that everything's in its proper place, you say you were just joking and hopefully get out of there with your dignity intact.Quote:

Some artists will give some clues about a character's gender before its revealed in order to make it more obvious for the audience. Their voice, their clothes, their body structure, their speech (well, this usually only works when reading/watching in Japanese). All of these things can be clues as to what gender the character is but ONLY if the creator makes them as such.
For example, in Soul Eater, Crona is an androgynous character who gender has not been officially revealed by anyone. Characters certainly have guessed but nothing has been revealed for certain. And all of the clues that I have listed that usually help have either not helped or they contradict each other. For example, Crona voice doesn't help since its not uncommon for females to voice male characters (and vice versa) and although Crona wears a dress, he/she also uses (in the Japanese version) the masculine pronoun "boku", which is used mostly by males (but not exclusively since some females, including myself, use "boku" when speaking).
If the creator leaves obvious clues, then, yeah you can certainly tell the difference. However, if they don't and purposely make the gender ambiguous (something they certainly can do and have done) then its almost impossible to tell until the gender is revealed (IF its revealed at all).:p
You did not make any sense or your wording of the question made it seem that way. The only mildly legal way of checking is to either ask or you may sometimes notice the more rounded chest of a female/woman. This again falls under not exactlly a good thinfg to make a habit out of.
These are all really good answers but i don't get most of em because like, it don't understand the fact that i can turn anime and go in the screen then ask them or look at them and ask if they are a girl or a boy!!! ^-^ but thankies............. Any more suggestions???

I find it makes more sense to think of classifying anime characters into three genders (or more, if we include futanari, but I'll leave that issue aside for now); there are the male, the female, and then the characters where biological gender doesn't really matter.
A classic example of the third gender is the bishounen in the Boys Love genre; biologically he is male, but he lacks many of the characteristics of a fully developed male (such as facial hair, a deep voice and a more muscular physical build), which gives him distinctly femine traits.
As it has also been oft noted by the ancient Greeks, typically this is characteristic of adolescents before puberty; in Western literature, Tadzio in Thomas Mann's "Death in Venice" is probably the most famous illustration of this character. It's why anime and manga are so often closely associated with pedophilia and pederasty.
Lol, I had that problem before while reading a random manga.
It was like a normal romance manga, 2 people studying together, and then touching eachother's bodies and taking off their shirts.
