Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
Why can Americans get to drive so easily like it is easy to pass driving test? For example i am seeing people who are described as low IQ in America and they always have car, or low income people always have car but in UK you must have money to drive or own car and the driving test is very hard to complete.
How many test do you have to complete in America to drive a car?
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
Europe likely has higher standards on driving skill (as car-operators are expected to share the roads with pedestrians and bicyclists on a level that is exceedingly rare in the US).
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
Oh, so in America they don't share with bicyclists?
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
We do with urban streets but highways are off limits to bicyclists. Not to mention bicyclists have to stick near the sidewalk and have to get off and walk there bikes when crossing the road or want to head in a direction that'd take them in the paths of cars.
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
Europe takes this to a whole 'nother level.

(Though that's a bit extreme, but most European cities have A LOT of bicycles. The US only seems to get scumbags who ride bikes for exercise and wear ridiculous tight brightly colored bicycle shorts and silly looking helmets)

Well, not that much. At least, there is so much diversity in traffic that some areas (like where I live) are used to bicyclists and pedestrians (since there are a bunch of businesses and universities around here) and other places aren't, to the point where they might react better to walking trees than someone on a bike.
Drivers are "expected" to share the road, but some people don't know how (or don't give a flying fig).
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
What about in financial aspects? I mean in America quite a lot of poor people have car, like ppl who live in South Bronx drive cars even though they have very low income and live in poor neighbourhoods. In UK not much poor people have cars or they can't afford the fees to complete the tests so are just getting buses to where they need to be.
Even in America those who lived in Hurricane Katrina neighbourhoods still had car even though are poor they can still run car?
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
To answer your question, I only needed to take one.
About the Americans getting cars easily than Europeans, I'm going to presume that tests are much easier here but that's just me...

Wow only one, in UK 3 or 4 tests are needed to be passed before can drive car on road, even more difficult to drive trucks, motorbikes and such.
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
Chances are the cars poor people may end up driving are probably crappy rundown cars that probably should be in a junkyard.

Even so they would still have to pay money for lots of lessons before they can do test right? or they don't have driving lessons in America, you just go straight to test?
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
They have lessons but if your 18 or over then you just need to take the test.

It depends on what state you live in, but i know here in Michigan you'll only need to take two Driver's Ed classes if your 16. If your 18 & over, then you can go to the DMV and get a booklet to study for a permit test, take the permit test, drive with someone who has a licence and is the age of 21 or older for 2-3 months, then take a road test. That's how i got mine. It might be different for some other states, but i don't know.
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
I waited till i was 18 to drive a car. Some ppl drive illegally before they are 18. And the driving test is..basic common knowledge. As for the car thing, some ppl sell cars for cheap mainly because the car is a piece of crap lol I share my grandparents cars and the payments arent that much.

The legal age to drive is 16.
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
A lot of places in the US don't have much in the way of viable public transportation. We drive greater distances than some people would walk or cycle, supposedly. Also, even though you're bringing up low income people, there are cars out there that even they can afford. There are not hefty taxes and fees on the average car in the US - only the large vehicles like Hummers or luxury cars. There's a gas guzzler tax and another type of tax for those. Your typical Kia or Ford Fiesta, however, only has to pay to register, title, and tag the vehicle.
To get a license, one must take a class which offers both hands on training and classroom time. When I took the class, it was offered in my high school over the summer.
There are stupid and inconsiderate people everywhere, they are not just limited to American roads.
Re: Why can Americans get to drive car so easily?
I just got my drivers license just today.
I had certification I got from driving ed classes I took, and all I had to do was go down to the DMV and get my license. Took me no less than 5 minutes, no test or anything.
