Legal Music Share Thread.
One very important ground rule before we begin.
No Illegal Sharing.
This is a legal share thread. What this means is you can only post albums that are under a Creative Commons license, being distributed by the artist for free i.e. promotional copies, or the album has fallen under Public Domain. You can not post albums that are illegal to share over the net. This is still against the rules. If you're in doubt about a certain album then don't post it. Only post links to stuff you are 100% sure is legal to share.
What is a 'Creative Commons license'?
A creative Commons license is basically a copyright that lets you share the copyrighted works legally. There are a number of things you can't do with something under CC such as making money off the work. Each artist under Creative Commons will have a something on their homepage stating what you can and can not do with their work. E.g. some will let you use their music in your YouTube videos as long as you give a link back to them while others won't let you do that at all. Check the artists site before doing anything other than downloading and passing on the music to your friends.
You can learn more about CC here.
What is a 'promotional copy'?
A promotional copy is a copy of an album that the artist has released for free for publicity. It gives you a chance to listen to the album and decide if you want to buy it or not. Generally a promotional copy will have some voice over in the middle of songs saying its a promotional copy. If it does please warn people about this if you post one.
What is 'Public Domain'?
Copyright only lasts so long. After a while it runs out and the work goes into Public Domain. What this means is that anyone can use it and even make money off it. Please be careful when posting Public Domain works. While stuff like Mozart's compositions may be under Public Domain the performance may not be and thus is illegal to share. The performance has to also be under Public Domain for it to be legal.
Also note that certain countries have varying lengths as to when something goes into the Public Domain. Japan, for example, has a 50 year mark before something is in Public Domain but many other countries have far higher marks such a 75+.
Sites
Before I begin dumping some of my favorite albums here are some good sites for free music.
Piano Society.
Free Music Archive.
Free Metal Albums.
Jamendo.
Internet Archive.

Warning, some of the following albums may contain offensive language.
Steadman
Say hello to Steadman(listening to them right now). The band that Paul McCartney tipped as the next big thing in English pop. I think he doesn't flatter them enough. The band album 'Revive' is easily one of my all time favorite albums. If you get anything in this thread make it Revive. But not only is Revive for free but their entire discography. Download em all here.
Nic Bommarito
Ok I may have exaggerated a bit with the last one but I guarantee you the next album is the greatest album of all time. 'Harp Fragments' is such a good album that its fighting for the top spot of my all time favorite albums with 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea' and 'Traced In Air'. Its easily the best instrumental album I've ever heard. Just sit back and let the music flow over you. Harp Fragments here and full discography here.
The Kid Daytona
I have to list this wonderful Hip-hop artist as hes the man who got me into CC albums. At fist I was dubious as to whether any free album could be any good but after listening to his 'Come Fly With Me' album all doubts were gone. I was hungry and wanted more. While the lyrics at times leave something to be desired the music is addictive as hell and will have you bouncing around by the third track. His albums are all on his myspace here.
Diablo Swing Orchestra
While their latest effort isn't under CC and thus illegal to share their first album is. It won The Biggest Surprise award in 2006 Metal Storm awards and for good reason. If you're even the slightest fan of Avant-Garde metal then check it out. Download here.
Bi-Polar Bear
Another great Hip-Hop effort. Some of the songs really blow me away particularly the first one(language warning). Take a listen and if you like download it. Download here.
Paolo Pavan
Paolo is an absolutely beautiful piano jazz artist. Well worth checking out. No matter who I play it for it universally gets two thumbs up. Download here.
Professor Kliq
If you're a fan of electronic music in anyway then check out the Prof. His first Community Service album in particular has some amazing Big Beat tracks. The second is much more ambient styled but still worth checking out. Download all.
Various Artists
Fan of Fallout? Ever wanted to pretend you're listening to Galaxy News Radio? Try 31 free albums worth of classic oldies . Mac runs old Public Domain albums through period record players to get a lovely classic sound. Just take a listen to see what I mean. Download all 31 0.o. He also has a podcast if you're interested. Its found here.
The Dead Rocks
I'll leave you with some epic Surf Rock. I don't know what else to say about it other than its something you must check out. Download their Discography.
I'll upload more later. Please dump some of your own favorites.
Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
Scrub club records releases a bunch of nerd rap for free --> http://scrubclubrecords.com/9/conten...-music-albums/
I personally vouch for the awesomeness of Sinister Six' "Invasion of the mic snatchers"; Kabuto The Python's "Parseltongue" and Madhatter's "8-Bit BS".
Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
I'm diggin Kabuto's album. Still makin ma way through the others.
Speaking of 8-bit like music, check out
Pornophonique
Light rock crossed with 8-bit. The 8-bit doesn't take centre stage much so don't go expecting anything like Crystal Castles. Instead the 8-bit works as a back up and really makes the music stand out. Worth a listen, check em out here.
Start Of The End
RAWR! DEATH METALZ! Not sure what else to say. Have a listen, if it takes your fancy then download, if not then don't. Find two albums here.
The Postmen
If you've even spent two minutes on Jamendo then you've probably heard of these guys but there's a good reason they're popular. This five track EP is well worth listening to and you probably wont regret doing so. Find it here.
Matthew Solberg
How have I not mentioned Matthew Solberg yet? The man is a god and demands you listen to his music. Thou shalt less than three Matthew Solberg or faceth his wrath. His website.
Entertainment For The Braindead
I mentioned this lady in my blog and I shall be repeating what I said here. Her Hydrophobia is one of the best albums I've listened to in a long time. You can pick up 3 of her albums here. While you're over there check out The Wind Whistles who are another cool band.
Kangaroo MusiQue
More 8-bit tuneage! Listening to this while I'm typing and its pretty funkay. Worth a listen a least. You can check out his The Alan Sugar Trash Orchestra album here
DS-10 Dominator
DS-10 Dominator is quite the fellow. He writes his music with his Korg-10 DS(an awesome game/program I might add) and plays live using only the DS. I'd love to see him but for now I'll make do with his two free albums. Its mostly Dub-step so it that's your thing this should be right up your alley. Download em here.
Funtastic Power!
Last but not least. If you haven't heard of Funtastic Power I have to ask 'what rock have you been living under'? Know that Sparta remix? Well that's his, along with a large collection of other songs, most of which are for free. His site is here.
Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
A short update as I've been busy with stuff lately. If you find something cool on the interwebs don't forget to post it here :)
Zoe.LeelA
Berlin singer and actress ZOE.LEELA's album Queendom Come is one hell of a ride of a six track piece. It doesn't really let up the whole time, each song has catchy hook after catchy hook. My only complaint is its only six songs long ;_; I NEED MOAR! Check it out here.
Electric Sea Snake
This ambient artist is a favorite of mine. Not only because of the awesome name but music is damn good too. ESS is an ambient musician that sometimes dips into IDM. My favorite album of his is his first one 'In Lucid Dreams' though 'Thief' is well worth checking out as well. Pick em up over @ mine, all mine! records.
Juanitos
A cool reggae/ska/rocknroll band. Well worth listening to, I'd say start with their best of's and work your way around from there. You can find em over at Jamendo.
Beatoven
Another mine, all mine! artist. They highly recomend his EP so you know its good stuff ;) Pick it up here.
BitBasic
Another cool electronic artist. BitBasic is UK artist who has been releasing stuff for some time now. I recommend his rainbow albums but give it all a listen. Pick up his stuff from here.
Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
Before this update I'd like to point everyone towards the Jamendo Tag search engine here. If you've ever tried to use the tag search on Jamendo I'm sure you noticed that you can't search two tags at once. This little baby lets you get past that and lets you omit certain tags from a search.
Pedals On Our Pirate Ships
I'm a big fan of folk punk(as the above link to the Wild will show) and one of my favorites is Pedals On Our Pirate Ships. I've been a fan of these guys for a while now but only noticed they were under CC when I spotted their split with The Wild. Well their first album is free and can be gotten here. Their second album you have to pay for but its only 5 US dollars and its dam good stuff. You can also still stream it for free. Enjoy.
The Rest
I'm not sure where to begin with describing the Rest. The bizarre are song names such as 'Atlantis, Typhoon, Oh Our Saviour, Starving Bears! Dance! Dance!'? Or the fact that said song is jaw droppingly awesome. The whole album is jaw droppingly awesome. They get compared to U2 a lot and while there are some similarities I think its fair to say they stand out on their own. Grab their album Atlantis, Oh Our Savior here.
Fresh Body Shop
If the last band sort of sounded like U2 then this band defiantly sound like NIN. Well their first album(Make this End) anyway. Its very impressive stuff and worth looking into. If thats not you're style then take a listen to some of their later efforts, especially their newest album(Director's Cut). Its much more of an acoustic/rock vibe as opposed to industrial. Alls good. Grab em here.
Love Through Cannibalism
Nintendocore FTW! This is sort of 8-bit/glitch/breakbeat and its superb. His newest album(Serial Experiments Tangela) is my favorite. It's not fast for the sake of being fast and it's just right. Although Metapodestroyer seems to be the most popular. Give it all a listen and make your own mind up. All albums on his bandcamp, here.
The Womb
Remember those guys who gate crashed CD:UK in 99 and gave out to Ant and Dec? No? Well this is them. And they recently released all their old material on CC. Thats 12 sweet albums. If you don't feel like shifting through all that then don't worry, the band have put together a compilation album of all their best stuff. You can pick it up on their website here.
Evils That Never Came
The last band for this update. Evils That Never Came are a great band that have been on the go for some time now. Both their albums, Northerly Windings and June, are great and you should at least listen if not download and then donate. You can get both albums on their bandcamp here.
*Note, some of the bandcamp pages here will say 'buy' rather than 'download'. This is a name your price system so if you want it for free just click but and type in 0.
Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
Here's a free song from Kids Of 88, you have to enter your e-mail to get the link but it's definitely worth a listen:

Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
A fairly local post-rock band I like released an EP online. If you go to the website (below) and click "free download" you have to enter your e-mail addresses and it e-mails you a download link. No spam or anything, I promise.
The band is called Fishing the Sky, the EP is called Drop Beats no Bombs, and there's 4 tracks:
1. Strawberry Kiwi Ruined My Life
2. You Just Got Niced!
3. Whitney!
4. Hope You Like Beer!
You can also listen to all the songs on the site.

Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
Sorry for late update and short post but I lost a good chunk of my music in the death of my hard drive so I'm slowly rebuilding.
A-1
How have I never told you guys about A-1? If you enjoyed any of the releases from Scrub club records then you'll love this. Not only is his album 'After School Special' the best nerd-core album I've ever heard it's easily one of the best hip-hop albums. From start to finish it's a nostalgia fun trip. Download the album. Check out his website.
Hipster Youth
This one reminds me of Kid A, which is never a bad thing. Quality electronic album from the brain behind 'Porn On Vinyl'. Pick it up here.
Porn On Vinyl
Speaking of Hipster Youth heres Aidan Wall's other stuff. It's a folk(of sorts) and lo-fi mix. Grab it here.
Lake Radio
I just started listening to it since I started typing and am now on track 5. Chillwave that chilled me out so much I have to share. Grab it here.
One last thing, are people happy with the shorter descriptions? Do you guys want what I thought of the album or are you ok with just genre listing?
Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
Some songs that Susumu Hirawasawa did for Paprika and Paranoia Agent are free as well.

Sampler - The Yellowbirds
Bio:
Yellowbirds is the moniker for the musical exploits of Sam Cohen, guitarist/songwriter/singer of the psychedelic collective Apollo Sunshine. With timeless inspirations like Charles Mingus and The Velvet Underground in mind, Cohen created “The Color” by Yellowbirds, his "solo" debut (George Lewis Jr. of Twin Shadow guests.) Double-speed auto-harp glissandos, glowing backwards pedal-steel, bubbling echo and fuzz guitars coalesce into a warm wall of sound. As existential lyrical themes emerge, delivered nonchalantly over psyched-out aural landscapes, the picture emerges of a dust-blown, 4th dimensional Future West. This is Cohen's quixotic world where "only the purist tones can be heard".
Fans of:
Apollo Sunshine, Vetiver, Twin Shadow, Ron Sexsmith, Lord Huron
Rating:
1. The Rest of My Life 9/10
2. Rings of the Trees 8/10
3. Beneath the Breach of Life 8/10
4. The Color II 3/10
5. The Honest Ocean 7/10
6. Come On Let's Go (Broadcast Cover) 7/10
Overall: 7/10

Mostly used by media companies for television and adds this site still may interest you if you enjoy soundtracks. A huge library of free music worth checking out, especially for aspiring young YT content creators(just make sure you don't enable ad revenue). Deep East Music

Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
Well dang. This is a legal music share thread, and I've legally got some legal music to share legally. Here's my SoundCloud. Everything there is under a Creative Commons license, and downloads are available.

Mr. Oizo, techno artist and the guy responsible for the adorable Flat Eric, is releasing a couple of albums for free. My personal pick is "Unfinished Unreleased Unpleasant". Just be ready... this doesn't sound like any conventional techno. Also, the site and the first track have a little profanity, but IIRC, the first track is the only one with any vocals at all.
Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
This is my band. Anime themed Melodic Death Metal. We put it up for free, if it gives an error or something let me know so I can fix it.

Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
I'm in a band called GS 1.0. We love celebrating Japanese culture! We do covers of anime themes and J-Pop songs, and we also write our own. If you'd like to check out any of our stuff, here's a link to our Youtube channel, which we upload to roughly twice a week. Enjoy! ^_^

Re: Legal Music Share Thread.
5sing contains a lot of songs free to download. It is a Chinese website so most of the songs are Chinese, but they have some in other languages as well.
Some songs are covers, and some are originals.
Just navigate to an artist's page for a full list of tracks. Hovering over a track will show you the download symbol.
Some artists that I like are :
Days Yuetuan (They create a lot of really good Chinese Vocaloid music.)
lingyuan yousa (She has an adorable voice and often collaborates with the above music circle.)
Ryuutsuki (She sings many Japanese tracks.)
Paigu Jiaozhu (He is able to manipulate his voice to sound like a woman's exceptionally well.)
yinlin (She has a lovely singing voice. She is best known for the song "牵丝戏" which she sung with another artist named "Aki".)
xiao yiqing / alex
Kune
JUN
Xiao Xu
Lastly, here are some standalone collaborative tracks that were released by several vocalists that I am fond of.
月满西江
万神纪
