Sydney anime conventions suck
Animania and Supanova are so horribly boring. I go every other year and every year its boring and there is hardly any anime that isnt naruto and death note. I've been meaning to go to Smash but I assume its going to suck too.
Does anyone else feel this way?
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
Well this is an international forum so not many members will have gone to either I'm sure. However if you feel this way about a con only having Naruto or Death Note etc. Then non-asian cons are not for you because you see this at nearly any convention you go to trust me. However to better your con experience try getting INVOLVED in your local convention. Trust me there are friendly ways to have your voice be heard by the crew running it if you try hard enough. It's your input that can make a difference.
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
Another Australian! =0 I know three on here now!^^
Anyway, I know they'e not as good as other countries like America have them, but they're okay I guess. Animania sucks from what I've heard, so I've only been going to Supanova for the past few years. I must admit though, Supanova just doesn't feel as good as it used to. I've been wanting to check out Smash too.
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
Animania was in this terribly cold warehouse that was just perfect for everyone in cosplay like myself. I really want to get into more anime things in Aus but my uni anime group are just a bunch of naruto/death note fan girls and the conventions are crap. I was considering trying Lolita groups. What anime is your dp from btw?
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
I do like Naruto and Death Note, but there are others i really like to^^ besides, it's kakashi i really love!XD I went as Luka Megurine to the last Supanova (if you have seen her, you would notice it's a pretty exposing costume) and it was surprisingly warm! =0 i think we really need to step the quality up though. I'd love to dress up in something lolita! Are there those kinds of things around?
My avatar is from the visual novel/anime "Kanon" by Key, my signature is from the game (there's also an anime based on it) Star Ocean: The Second Story/Second Evolution and my other tiny one is from the program "Vocaloid".
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
My friends said that animania and smash were great. I didn't get to go though... :(
But they did say that they didn't have a big range of anime merchandise on sale. Only a little bit of this and that.
lol, I like how there are more Australian's here than I thought :)
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
Yeah, I went to Otakon once whilst in the states, and Supanova in Sydney. The two simply don't compare.
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
What can you do though? :x if only we could get in some Japanese artists or something; that could step it up a little. I still can't believe I missed out on seeing Yuki Kajiura a few years back!><
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
well i know in the US we have some pretty awsome anime conventions i dont know if you can count it as a anime convention but Comikon in san diego is awsome
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
Oh yeah, I went to one with a friend a while back.
She went as a 5'9" Misato from Neon Genesis Evangelion and I went as a 6'3" Penpen.
It was hot (especially in that blasted costume) and quite boring.
Haven't been to one since.
That said, my friend went to the last one up in Brisbane I think it was? And said it was a lot better. It was somewhere in QLD.
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
I've never been to the one in Queensland.... I did cosplay Kenshin Himura once though (yes, even though I'm a girl). Main reason was that I didn't have to do anything with my hair apart from straighten it and I really wanted to wear a hakama! :3 They're a bugger of a thing to put on though. I needed help. The biggest downside of cosplaying him though was that I had to strap my chest with bandages for obvious reasons.... So I kinda looked like an injured Kenshin. After wearing the Luka Megurine wig though, I love it, so not all are that bad!^^
If anyone has been to Smash, let me know what it's like please! =0
Re: Sydney anime conventions suck
I don't know anything about Australia. Why do you think most of the cosplayers on your chunk of the world cosplay as Naruto or Death Note characters?
