Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Well, it's frickin' DYNAMITE.
Here are some general tips: If you want to deal with radscorpions, you NEED armor-piercing ammo (or a flamethrower, but that's not very effective). They have unbefrickin'lievably high damage threshold, so pretty much anything else will do like 1 damage per shot. Explosives -might- work, as well.
Hollow point ammo are also good to keep around, if you run into big low-DT targets. But it's not nearly as effective. I only use them against nightkin, as those guys have insane HP, like no DT and do enough damage to need to go down very quickly.
Melee damage seems to wreck armor very quickly, so it's a good idea to stay away from melee opponents if you want your armor to stay in one piece.
As well as the visible land mines, there are now barely visible concealed mines.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Finally found my old friend from Fallout 3 <3, the Hunting Rifle (god damn it's overpowered in New Vegas) Anyhows, update on my stats.

The fact that it's game over when you finish the main quest actually makes much more sense in New Vegas than it did in consequence-free Fallout 3, seeing as how you can't explore the whole game with the same character because of the bridges you burn in doing so.
It does give a much better sense of depth to the game. I mean, in 3, the worst thing you could do was.. blow up megaton, which, didn't really give you that much reward..

Why oh why do the scorpions have such a high DT. At least, whenever one of those bugger decides to come into my house uninvited, I get it with a shoe or something and it's done with in one hit. lol

Are the nightkins the same as the deathclaws?

I typically avoid melee, just because the loss of safety by being in such close contact outweighs the benefits.

Oh cool, so now we get actually -look- for mines like we're supposed to? <3

Well, they have a carapace that is like several inches thick. Would seem like something quite bullet-proof to me.

No, they're invisible super-mutants. A serious headache to kill.

This is generally a good idea, but not always so easy to do in practice.

Well, more like stroll into a mine field and lose both your legs, then look for a way out of there without losing your torso.
Also, there's a gun I just found. It looks like a tommy gun, but manic laughter ensued when I realized it shoots frickin' lasers!

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Finished the main story.
Two things bothered me.
1) New Vegas itself was pretty freaking small considering it's the main focus of the game. D.C. was much larger in comparison. I was expecting to see a big strip filled with Casino's, instead it was 3 Casino's and a slum. Big whoop.
2) Why were there only 3 Casino games? And for the biggest city in the Mojave it felt kind of dead. Not a single Poker Table to be found.
Also fun fact.
If you have 10 luck, you almost always win or break even in blackjack, you'll hardly ever lose.
And has anyone found the Legendary Deathclaw yet? Supposedly there is only one. It's much larger than other deathclaws, has 850 health, 10 perception (No sneak attacks for you), and does 250 damage +Knockback with each hit. I have suicidal tendencies and activley hunt Deathclaws whenever I can since I was murdered by one at level 10.
-Look through sniper scope on Varmint Rifle, See Deathclaw far away
-Too low level to deal with it, decide to back away before it see's me
-Turn to my right, there's a second Deathclaw...5 feet away from me
- "Clever girl"
- Dead character.

Well, New Vegas is a sort of rat-pack era Vegas, which was significantly smaller than the city is now. Beyond that, trying to populate a humongous city with interesting characters and plots is utterly doomed to fail (as Fallout 3 clearly demonstrated). Besides, this is very much in line with how older Fallout games were designed.

Vegas is a tourist destination. A huge frickin' nuclear war reducing most of the country to a nuclear wasteland is the very epitome of bad for business.

"Legendary Deathclaw"? As if they weren't frighting enough.
Actually, funny story about deathclaws. You have to be careful of them when they're around and you decide to wander into an enclosed area.
In 3, I ran away from one into a vault, and didn't realize that the damn thing would -still- be outside the entrance when I was done exploring 2 hours later (and had already saved like.. a bunch of times).
the walls to the entrance made it so I couldn't just run around it, and I obviously was unable to fast travel.. I came very, very close to having to restart the entire game. @__@
luckily though, i managed to kill the thing..

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
I found out funny how they labeled it as "blind Deathclaw", yet it doesn't make it any better.
-
Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
I like the game so far, better than fallout 3 to me.
But is there anyway to change your characters appearance besides from the kings barber shop?
-
Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Pffft, I kill Deathclaws with Spiked Knuckles.
(And Stimpacks. Lots and lots of Stimpacks. Especially when several are trying to rape me at the one time.)
-
Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Deathclaws were much easier back when Fallout was turn-based. You could get like 6 sniper shots off at it before it even reached you (and the sniper-rifle was ridiculously OP).

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
God, I forgot how much I love pickpocketing xD.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Ok, so now I'm done with my first playthrough (30'ish hours) And I decided to take the Hoover Damn for myself... I think NCR (which I helped ALOT!) got butthurt :<... Also where do you guys find epic weps'n'armor :3?

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Thanks guys. I just bought this game and I CAN'T FRIGGIN' STOP PLAYING IT!! =D
Funfact: I encountered one of those giant scorpions Eris spoke of and I was level 2. I had a rifle, and I was at the top of a high place. I kept shooting and shooting and shooting it, and was moving around randomly and getting stuck at objects, and I was slowly chopping down its HP. But then it went round the mount, climbed from the other side and made it near the top. Luckily for me, it got stuck near me, where I kept shooting it at it until its HP was like 2. But then I accidentally moved and it un-stuck'd itself and killed me with two hits. X____X
And when I loaded the game, it was like 15 minutes ago. D=
MAN, I WAS ABOUT TO KILL THE GODDAMN SCORPION AT LEVEL 2!!! ;____;
-
Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
updating stats:
Level 5 currently.
Got the educated perk. And I'm planning on taking the NCR's side in the game.
Still just exploring atm.

If it makes you feel better, I'm at level 19 and they still give me headache.

Yeah, I mean... They're like crazy! I couldn't hit them with one single dynamite... (Though I fail @ throwing. o_0 I'm only good at aiming and shooting.)
Edit: Actually, I should have practiced throwing them before having to use them... :p Thought about everything in this game except this.
-
Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Well time for a character update (my 1st playthrough one) decided to reload just before last mission so I can fool around, explore and random questing :3

lol, why don't you just use the VATS? Makes things a whole lot easier. xP

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Lol at people who play Fallout as a FPS.
You're not going to go anywhere like that.

VATS is useless against rad-scorpions. They have no vulnerable limbs.

Works pretty well in New Vegas, now that you have proper iron sights (unlike Fallout 3, where manually aiming was utterly impossible). With very fast moving opponents, VATS is useful, but it works pretty well without as well. Given you have the skill, that is, as it affects your aiming in "FPS" mode as well.

Why would you do that? You'll ruin the replay value!

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
Well Eris, I'd mostly fool around places I've already been, just until I ding 30. Complete some side quests I got. Maybe get banned from the casinos (havn't gambled yet and got about 60k caps atm. Srsly what do I need so many for =/ )

Re: Fallout: New Vegas discussion thread.
You're looting too much if you have that much money.
