Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
HELL TO THE "NO"
Like for instance, I'm a guy.. and I have already cried liters of tears on anime. Because after all, no matter what gender we are.. we're human beings.
We cry because there is sadness or joy it just shows that you have feelings and that is not absolutely that you're weird or anything like that..
Honestly, I get sick whenever people tease men who cry saying like what a crybaby. Seriously...

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
When I think about crying I think about something very important. When I watch a cartoon I think of it as just a cartoon and it makes me feel silly to have actual emotions over it. It's not like I want to try and be tough or something.

@ilovepuppies32
I dont think we are talking about toons here, maybe some, but I'm talking about the more serious anime. I dont cry when wile e coyote falls to his death, thats a bit different. Have you ever cried at a real movie? If no, then I dont know, maybe you just dont connect to what your watching emotionally, or just more emotionless than most of us, IDK. If yes, then whats the difference with anime? Just because its drawn instead of filmed? Well most movies now are computer animated to the point that there is more fake graphic parts than real filmed parts. Sure real movies typically have more thought put into the story, more realistic drama, (bigger budgets) etc, but thats not to say that some animes dont stack to them as well. If an anime didnt make me excited, happy, sad, etc, I'd shut it off and look for something else.

It's not that anime isn't as good as real movies. It's that it would be silly to cry over a story.

I agree. Crying does not mean you are weak or pathetic, just means you are actually human and not some damn robot that society has made some guys to be. I mean come on, you were born a human. Were would humans be without emotions, sympathy, or worries? Over the generations it was bad for a male to actually cry, but I say unless you do not have a heart and actually care about something? Then you are no human at all, but that is my opinion so yeah..

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Yep, I agree with the people that said crying means you have a heart. Now, bawling, on the other hand, is melodramatic for both women and men.
...and that is all I have to say that hasn't really been said already.

Man. Otaku wuss.
Also, [Hah, no manly parts!]

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
No, that doesn't make you less of a man. A real man is not ashamed of showing his feelings/emotions.
I know how it feels to be touched to tears by a scene in a movie/show. And crying feels good sometimes.

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
I think the notion that men are supposed to be less emotional than women is incredibly stupid and sexist. You can feel what you want, and express it however you wish; who cares about your gender?

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Not at all bro! I've cried before when watching certain anime so I can ensure you it doesn't mean you're pathetic, just a human like me and everyone else here.
-
Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Chocking up, understandable.
Crying...to Sailor moon? ehh thats a lil much in my opinion. lol
but hey! if anyone wants to rip on you for crying about ANYTHING, you let big bro DerGerman know and i'll personally do all i can to make them cry! Physical pain is always an option.

Someone will be over to take back your man card in the very near future...

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Just putting this out there - the older I get, the more I cry in movies, anime etc. Before I was 21, I'd cried in maybe 2 movies? But now I cry in almost everything I watch! I think now that I have my partner and our little family (2 dogs) I can relate to sad things more because I now have something that I care about so much...
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I do. I personally think that the older we get, the more sensitive we become of other people. When I was a teenager, I'm more sensitive to MY feelings. In other words, I was selfish. But now that I'm older, I realize that other people matter too. That's why I become more sensitive of others' feelings. And maybe that's why I feel it's only natural that we can relate to other people's feelings, and sadness is one of them, and we express it by crying. Nothing wrong with that.

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
No.
Simple as that. Some cries, some don't. It doesn't matter what sex you belong to.

Some hundred years ago it was one of the manliest things a man could do.

I have noticed this as well. Maybe its tying the things you deeply care about and the emotional part of what you are watching?

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
For the OP, you're in luck, being a macho man hasn't really been in style since the Villiage People were on the charts.
These days it seems western girls prefir metrosexuals, where you're exibiting traits traditionally associated with homosexuality, and in the east you've got the whole bishōnen thing where the objective seems to be to look and act like a girl with just a hint of masculinity in your posture and voice and a little less kawai going on.

I've experienced the opposite. I increasingly find myself involuntarily dropping the needed suspention of disbelief and thinking about the writers and stuff.
For example I'll be watching what should be a tearjerking scene in Avatar, and ruin it by thinking something like "Really? An entirely virtual world and that's the blocking and camera angle James went with?"
It's even worse with old books, since I'll have come across some interview where the writers is talking about how they wrote the stuff up just to promote socialism/objectivism whatever. I just can't empathize with the characters after that. And this feeling spills over to other books and media.
When I was younger it was much easier to stay in the mindset where you, at an emotional level, feel like your TV is a window where you're looking at real people who are doing things right now, or a book is like somebodies diary.

Indeed! :) I'm the kind of guy who doesn't cry watching animes (or with most of emotive things, can get touched of course but hardly cry), but that doesn't matter, you're not strange (unless you're crying for some nonsense thing lol), don't worry about that :P
Looking at just that you're just as a man as I am and as human as everyone else, either crying or not

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
You are a very sensitive individual, dont be ashamed of that.
-
Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Unless you follow the god, Crom, and are named Conan, then no its not weird. :) I've teared up to a few animes so far, and other movies. If it tugs at your heart strings and feels like your throat is getting tight, then it means your human. :) Honestly, if you didnt tear up to the things that really pull on what makes you tick, I would consider that weird.
