Looking for a good, long anime series

I need some help and suggestions from everyone. I'm looking for an anime series that is good (addictive, engaging, character driven, viewers want to start the next episode immediately, etc.), and long. Something longer than 26 episodes (the more the better). I know there are a TON out there, but the problem is I've seen most =(

I honestly don't mind the genre, as long as it's good. I'm not the biggest fan of Space Operas or Mechas (Gundam being both), or pure comedies (Azumanga Daioh, Gintama, etc), but I'll always give them a try. I much prefer action and/or adventure series', but again, I'll try anything. And they MUST be serials; not episodic series. What I mean by this is the series is continuous (sans filler or small story arcs), one episode leading to another, not small side stories each episode.

I've seen (and probably read if it's an on going manga series): One Piece, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, DB(Z)(GT), Gantz, Flame of Recca, D.Gray-Man, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, Rurouni Kenshin, Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Sailor Moon, Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha, Card Captor Sakura, Fist of the North Star, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, and, uh.. some more probably =P

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I'll second that, very good choice.

Death Note would be another good choice, very little action, but tons of suspense. 37 episodes, so a little longer than 26.

Eureka Seven is mecha, but it packs a ton of action/adventure/romance and is 50 episodes long. The story is mostly continuous, though a few episodes in the first half of the series do seem episodic, but they either build the themes of the series or have characters that come back later in the series.

It's kinda hard to recommend much. Most anime are 13-26 episodes long, and you've seen a good majority of the long-runners, so not much is left.

Each repetitive step brought about by a very generic plot device.




Excluding the more recent surge of long-running shounen series, the better of which you have already listed, most long-running series have been the good ol' space operas of decades long passed. Considering you want to disclude those, you've really cut your options down.

Funny, when choosing anime I tend to shy away from anime that are 100+ episodes. And I see nothing wrong with episodic anime like Azumanga Daioh. D=

Anyway, maybe you'll want to check out Cyborg 009. But if you want to see only long ones, here's some.

im not much for long animes but i can direct you to a few mangas that are long. like negime and xxxholic both are long and they are still being made

Ranma 1/2 is good but it's more a slice of life style, it doesn't really have a continous plot.

Trigun is good, can't remember how long it is though I want to say 30-40 episodes

not traditional "anime" but samurai Jack is good too

Claymore or Eyeshield 21 are really good.

Well, for longer running series, a lot of what I like happens to be mech and space and sci-fi, so I'll exclude that, but for episodes that are still episodic, Golgo 13 is still an awesome series.

Taiyou no Ko Estevan
Ghost Sweeper Mikami
First Kinnikuman series
Street Fighter II V (well, not long, but today's standard length, but a very kick *** series)
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (a little episodic for your taste, but I still recommend it since there is still a "main plot" to it)
Nurse Angel Ririka SOS
Ashita no Joe
Hajime no Ippo

My area of expertise!

Death Note isn't really action-y, but it's still a must-read/watch.
Ghost in the Shell is another must-watch.
Code Geass is one of those series that you have to love.
Detective Conan (called Case Closed in the manga) is epic.
Evangelion is 26 episodes, but is a must-watch.
I can't think of any more, as I'm tired. :banghead:

Even though you said you don't like Space Opera, I still strongly recommend Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Taiyou no Kiba Dougram

ONE PIECE is what you are looking for

+1 for black lagoon but its not very long (24 eps?).
