Now, I see them both in their finer points. Before you come here and say ANIME!!!!!!!!11111111111111111111111 Think about how much western culture Influences it. - Animation is Animation regardless of the country it comes from: Anime, just has a huge huge following over here.
To go with what I enjoy more? Then yes, Japanese Animation. but I'm making a point here that: For those of you whom are going to go "OMGZ ANIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111 - Think about how much Western Culture Influences Some of them.
Japanese Anime all the way
I like anime simply becaue most(but not all) are just flat-out better than what America has to offer. Like Sponge bob cant even compare to Digi Charot, and I don't even like Digi Charot(sp?)
Currently anime. I mean, once Justice League, Samurai Jack, and Teen Titans were all cancelled about the same time (sad times), the only ones left I enjoyed were Avatar and South Park (Simpsons lost it around 2000, and Family Guy has been getting weaker ever since it came back). Futurama's back, which is great, but it's still not much variety. The 90's era of great American cartoons is gone (Batman, Spider-man, X-men, Beast Wars, classic Nicktoons, etc.), and I wonder if we'll ever see it again.
If we're talking whole history here, I'd probably still pick anime, but it would be much closer.
I like American animation a lot *Teen Titans!! Raven rocks!*, but Anime wins simply because they can be serious, funny, tense, they simply pull out a lot more feelings than the American ones, which are mostly just funny. I hope I expressed myself right -.-
I like both...I'm gonna count all generations for this. Not just new stuff...Because IMO when it comes to new stuff, both sides lack anything overly good anyways...
American:
Inspector Gadget
Heathcliff
Duck Tales
Gummi Bears
GI Joe
The Simpsons
Family Guy
Futurama
Transformers (so the Japanese helped out with this)
The Last Unicorn
The Iron Giant
Most anything Ralph Bakshi has done.
Multiple Disney Movies
and more...
Japanese:
Macross/Robotech
Akira
Lupin III
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Beebop
Bubblegum Crisis
Wings of Homoneise
Record of Lodoss War
Fist of the Northstar
Mysterious Cities of Gold (OK So there was French help)
and more...
Yes well, what I have to say right now will spring alot of controversy on me! I'm not going to argue about Japanese anime and American anitmation on this forum, 'cause they both have their good and bad points. To save you people a day, I'll just say, Japanese anime 'cause it just appeals to me more and is fairly more entertaining!
Sigh, both. :] I'm a big fan of anime, but I'm also in to the whole Justice League, Batman and Superman stuff. Lol :B I'ma' coo' nerd!
To decide this, watch this:

Note: The American one is the crappy one. The Japanese is the good-looking one.
japanese anime all the way!
dude your asking this question and an anime forum...
WHAT DO YOU THINK???:p
It's all the same no matter what. There is no difference between anime or cartoons. They just have different names. O_o Oh, and, toboe. Spongebob is obviously better known than Digi Charot whatever. It's known throughout the world, and the only thing Japan can use to compete with it is Hello Kitty or possibly Astro Boy. And maybe Akira. But, just to be clear,
Anime is lines drawn and then filled in with color, and then they get voice actors to voice the characters.
Cartoons are lines drawn and then filled in with color, and then they get voice actors to voice the characters.
What's the difference?
Edit: But if your going to go into the entire "detail" thing, you should really watch the classics. -IRON GIANT IS A MUST-
-Oh, and I voted for both-
I like Japanese anime better because to me they have more depth in them than American cartoons. The Americans try to hard to rely on action than emotion, as if it is weak to show the human side.
Japanese all the way and yes Vixen is right, what kinda question is that your asking on Anime Forum?(lol)
Anyway anything America makes most definetly will suck...........
Actually I don't think its as BIG as you think...
visual quality...theres plenty of American animation that has visual quality up there with the Japanese. Theres even Japanese animation that has crap visual quality. It goes both ways.
quality of plot...for the most part its all opinion when it comes to this. But there is American animation with good quality plots. But if you pick the crap of American animation and compare it to the gems of anime you're going to think the Japanese is better...It goes both ways as well.
The way its drawn...Well just like with Anime different artists have different styles. But either way you use your hand and put your vision down on whatever it is you're drawing on.
frames differences..again depends on the studio and the budget..
line differences...depends on the studio and the budget I'd say as well.
Everyone who says that American animation sucks needs to be either sat down to watch what I consider to be the great animated classics, or should throw themselves down a well.
Fantasia, Lion King, Iron Giant, Titan A.E., Secret of N.I.M.H.? Were you asleep or under a rock when these came out?
Anyway, difference in audience is the reason for all the supposed 'quality' differences. Most American cartoons are targeted towards children, who are not interested in deep stories and picture-perfect art. The animes that usually get name dropped by comparison are aimed at older audiences. It doesn't make anything more even that most American animators have now gone to 3D CGI, inspired by the success of Pixar and Shrek.
WOOOO! The Secret of N.I.M.H.!! I should rep you...yes I think I will. That's an amazing film.Quote:
Fantasia, Lion King, Iron Giant, Titan A.E., Secret of N.I.M.H.? Were you asleep or under a rock when these came out?
Em...but in general, I think anime is better because it comes in such a variety...you got kids, teens, adults, all ages...and American animation hasn't really reached that point yet. It's GETTING there...but I don't think it will ever have the depth a lot of anime has.
I likeJapanese Animations. . . Haha, because I'm an anime fan of course! ^______^
But, American animation is cool too! The Simpsons and Disney movies are examples. Though, American and Japanese animations also can be in 3-D. . . For example, Advent Children and Toy Story Haha, and I'm a graphics and storyboard person as well, so it all depends. . . =_____=;;
So, I guess I like both animations overall! ^^
American Animations
Any Disney ones. . .
(Mulan
Pocahontas
Toy Story. . .)
The Simpsons
Family Guy
Japanese Anime
Lucky Star
BLEACH
Ouran Host Club
TMoHS
I was just watching BLEACH, and to me, it's pretty good, but I'll have to watch more episodes to understand it. I'ts a little violent I admit, but nothing really graphic. And once again: Japanese anime rules!!!!!
1950s American
1960s Japanese
1970s American
1980s American
1990s Japanese
2000s Japanese
I like them both, considering I grew up watching American cartoons and not anime. I didn't discover anime until I was ten years old.
But I mean c'mon! Your a fan of cartoons before your a fan of anime cartoons. Well at least that's how it went for me...
Anime all the way.
ANIMEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Is that clear enough?
