Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
This topic always seems to bring up arguments, so I thought it would be interesting seeing everyone's views on here. I don't mind it(depending on how its done) though others may disagree. Fanservice can get awkward at times, especially if a non anime fan sees it. So, your take AF?
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
Meh. It's unavoidable for the most part. I don't like it if that's literally ALL the series is is a bunch of fanservice, but as long as it's got a decent story, I really don't care that much.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
Against it, brings down an anime. Just no reason for it to be there and I rather not have the quality of an anime brought down by it.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
I have learned to embrace it instead of fighting it, unless it goes real overboard. If its a snapshot here and there of a woman's behind or chest area, at first I thought oh come on, we are supposed to care for this character! Dont do that, its disrespectful and makes that character more like an object than a person. But like I said i've learned not to fight it, there's no point in me getting upset about it ;D Sometimes it doesnt affect me at all, its just another snapshot, been there seen that, but other times I can instead of objecting it also be like yeaah that looks nice haha xD Without it getting in the way of how I view this character and my connection to her. But sometimes I guess it gets too much and I cant help but be bothered by it. And yeah I can definitely see how it would be awkward if a non-anime fan sees it, then all their fears and stereotypes of anime is sort of proven ;>
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
It doesn't bother me at all really. There are some rare times where fan service is WAY over played, but the majority of it doesn't bother me whatsoever. Then again, I am a male, so my argument can be considered invalid. Oh well.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
Personally, the issue with fanservice in most mangas nowadays is that it centers way too much on moe culture. The good old fanservice comedy has nearly taken a backseat to what can be defined as moe-service. I mean, it's cool when done in pieces but overdoing it, makes it boredom and repetitive.
One thing though: Quite some anime-lovers friends told me that they support fanservice moments much better since watching/reading some more ecchi/hentai mangas/animes. I don't know if it's true or not, as I was nearly always into ecchi/hentai mangas/animes but it's true partially that I don't get irritated by proper fanservice as long as it's well-done. I guess, this is a remedy to be tested as anyways, fanservice isn't going anywhere - it will always remain omnipresent in Japanese manga culture.

So long as the guy the girl likes sees her bunny bun buns then it's cool with me. I always like canon parts in anime. Maybe cuz I'm a dumbf--k hopeless romantic.
I embrace my dude tendencies.. And support fanservice.. Though everytime someone mentions fanservice, I think of HOTD or Rosario + Vampire.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
A little bit is alright. Have to please the masses. Sex sells. I personally don't see the point though. If I want to see fan-service I can go to the bar.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
Fan-service doesn't bother me as I tend to ignore it, fan-service appears in most anime and manga so it's pointless trying to avoid it. However having said that I can get annoyed if it gets majorly overdone as I feel it brings down the quality of the show and the character. Fan-service is just another part of anime, not a part I really enjoy but a part I can easily ignore without it impacting on how I view the anime or manga over all.

I like this post and I agree. IMO fanservice is fine, unless its overdone. Beach scenes are fine, but some animes do go overboard. Try: Highschool of the dead.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
In all honesty, I don't care if it's present. Unless it's something like Kanokon (if I spelled it right), then it's unavoidable.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
I can't lie about liking fan service... but it does detract from many anime. I mean its like instead of spicing it up with more interesting story line or characters or something they just increase the bust size of the gals and whatnot. Its like they are admitting the show is lame.

Thats what I was thinking. I havent seen a great many anime but I have seen both of those. Sure there is the part inside me that wishes things were like Rosario + Vampire where beautiful women throw themselves at me! But its like thats all the show was about. They were both fun to watch once, but I probably wont be watching them again. Now an anime that is great without having to resort to excessive fan service, thats harder to come by.
Re: Fanservice in anime. Whats your take?
I don't see why fanservice is bad for anime/manga (well, I'd say sometimes). But too much is also not a good thing, like in the anime "K". I couldn't concentrate with all the fanservice, really (okay, I was concentrating on the fanservice). But sometimes it brings life to the anime. Like in Higurashi Rei and Kira, these two seasons of OVAs were supposed to be full of fanservice, yet many fans disapprove of it. I find it okay though.
