I just bought a PS2 from a friend and went out and got some games and a certain title caught my eye: Socom: US Navy Seals. Well, I've played many games and beaten them on their hardest difficulty, buy Socom is the hardest. I have never had to try the same level over that many times to beat it once before.
So now the question: What is the hardest video game you have ever played and (if you know why) Why is it so hard?
Well I can think of several:
Baldurs Gate 2 - if you've never played the first and then try the second it dumps you in the middle of a town surrounded by quests that are more likley to kill you. Took me ages just to get past the first main quest - amass gold - it also long - like 60 hours and thats the box blurb time - bonuses are that its really in depth and an RPG god
Fire emblem the sacred stones (GBA) - each battle takes around 1 hour to finish - thats not the hard part - the hard part is that the game autosaves after every action, its instant so no lag, but the downside is when the end of level boss kills off any character - as they are all non-replaceable - thus meaning that you have to go back to the start and try again - that said its one of the best turnbased games I have played and a GBA classic
Genesis Rising (PC) - hard to get into and with a no save feature ingame can prove difficult to beat - but thats part of the fun
thats all for now - though I have to say that in general most modern games are easyier to beat than the older games - unless you go online - then you meet the moster players that have insane tactis - just try supreme commander or dawn of war - or if your really in for a beating try the starcraft group - though be careful they're fanatics!

Slowly and painfully escape holes only to fall into another. The biggest challenge is wanting to try again.
Probably Hector's Quest on Fire Emblem (original NA release for GBA) on the hardest difficulty. I gave up on it about halfway through (then again, I play until none of my guys die, so w/e). Or Advance Wars (the original for GBA).
PS2- God of War 2, all levels are hard for me i've defeated eassy and normal now i'm starting on hard mode, it's so hard because it really makes you think and do strategies and stuff like that
The hardest game I played and cannot understand is a role play genre called: Ederls Scroll:Obilivion, and Two Worlds (Since its reaaallyy laggy).
id say pacman. seriously. it gets very hard once you really get into it. its impossible to beat.... i think
well the hardest game i have ever played would be need for speed most wanted..........to tell the truth i suck at every racing game i play..........any time my fingers get numb i just give up instantly.....hmmmmmmmm......that's why i stick to RPG games like zelda....that's much better....:closedeye
YES i so freakin know what you're talking about it's like so addicting once you really start to play it, but it's hard though, but mother has beaten it on mmore than one occasion...so it's not impossible to beat but she's been playing since she was kid so she got some practice time in...Quote:

Hardest game i can think of is Star Wars KOTOR I.It took me a lot of time to complete but i'm not that much of a gamer :D
Ninja gaiden on hardest anyone? I was in despair even at normal and when i got to the hardest....It makes grown men cry....CRY i say!

Devil May Cry on Dante Must Die difficulty setting.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (or Subsistence) on European Extreme and recieving the FOXHOUND rank.

Out of the 14 years of my 18YO life that i have played video games i must say Silent Hill 1 back in the day. . . . took me and my dad forever for both of us to try and beat it,the puzzles the boss battles the maps. . .all so complicated.
Not so much as the hardest but the challenge of making it harder on you. Play Soul Calibur using the weakest weapons. (caution: in doing this you should be prepared for loads of frustration and replays of the same level)
Guitar Hero 2 on Hard and Expert diffriculty because they play tricky notes on me and it takes forever for a 5 star performance.
Halo 2 on Legendary diffriculty because you die frequently until you beated once.
I would have to say Metal Gear Solid 2 on Very Hard.
DMC3/Ninja Gaiden. When I first played these games, I got severly owned, but eventually I got better.
Katate Kid for the NES. OMG, this is an impossible game!
I think the hardest i've played would be either 007 everything or nothing or ghost recon 2
