Saddest music?
What's the saddest music you've ever listened to? (Can be anything including instrumentals, rock, theme songs...etcs)
For me, I actually think that some of the film music done on the Lion King by Hans Zimmer was pretty sad. Like when Simba was talking to his dead father in the stars and you hear the music in the background ("This Land")... That was sad ;;_;; And also Hans Zimmer's work in Spirit.
Also, I think "Shattered" by Trading Yesterday and "What Hurts The Most" by Rascal Flatts.
And it's not really that sad but "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban or Westlife, whichever version you prefer. Make me cry everytime.

Once a noble, prince, did what he could for his people, couldn't think about what happened if he failed... And now, he's lying dead on the ground, staring into the eyes of his father, just a ghost infront of him, "Father... Is it over yet?", "Yes my son, no king rules forever."

Re: Saddest music?
If I cba to think about it more, then I might've been able to recall a song sadder than this one below, but... oh well... this is the one that sprung to mind so anyway...
Perhaps it might be easy to dismiss a Disney musical here, but... for me, "Part of Your World" holds a meaning and significance much greater than the purpose of the song. To me this isn't just about a Mermaid wishing to be part of another world... this is about individuals in general who wish to take a different route in life to others, but are constantly told to "conform" to some social ideal... otherwise be labeled as "weird" or "radicalists". In other words, it's a plea for freedom... that's the greater meaning of the song. I'd say the peak of the song's sadness is when Ariel's face changes from a look of anticipation to that of despair (This is at the point where she's reaching out toward the surface from the underside of the narrow opening at the top of the cavern), which arguably would be the climax of the score as well. Every time I hear that part of the song, I find it very difficult to not get emotional... especially when I recall the scene of a decending Ariel afterward, as she sinks back to her own world where she feels trapped and unable to break free.
So anyway... here it is:

For me one of the saddest songs has to be Tha Crossroads by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. It makes me think of all my relatives who died(Especially my grandfather, and my granny from Alabama) and the friends i've lost. I can't listen to it because my eyes tear up every time i hear it.

Re: Saddest music?
"Into Nothing" by Shaolin Temple of BOOM. It's not really a sad song, but I was listening to it when I found out that my dearest friend had passed away and it's been my "goodbye forever" song ever since.

Admittedly, this song is so sad because of the part of the movie it accompanies, but after you see it, you'll always think of it when you hear the song by itself.

I always cry when I hear Summer Elegy by Rick Wright, The Elfen Lied theme, Careless Whisper by George Michael, Serenade by Franz Schubert, Time Forgets by Yiruma, or On Another Sorrow from the soundtrack of the 1995 version of A little princess.
