Can anyone point me to a good clip-art or such-like site where I can get some textures and embellishments to use in the background behind an anime image? I've seen all sorts of links to finding the right anime image, but I can't find some decent background textures to use that aren't the standard Photoshop (I still have, sob!, 5.1) ones. I like some of the curly, spiky embellishments I see in some of the wallpapers here, but the only place I've found stuff like that so far are some decorative dingbat fonts! The wonderful smudgy, old photo textures are wonderful too, but I imagine those are probably skillful brushwork and not something I can download. Any good ideas for me?

Many backgrounds used on anime wallpapers are made from scratch in photoshop. Another popular approach is to use a real photograph but run some filters over it (blur, pixellate, mosaic, etc) and reduce the opacity. Google's image search (images.google.com) is also a great place to find simple images if you know what you're looking for.

The curly stuff you're referring to is a brush. You can download it somewhere... I can't remember. But I'm sure someone who has used it before, when they read this, is able to tell you where and which brush it is. Oh, and go upgrade~ If you're broke, go to the seas and search for a person that goes "Arrr ya scurvy dawg!" Get my drift? Heh.. SHHH

Uh, yeah. Anyway, go to the stickies thread "Tutorials" and go to the Spoono website (very good site). Under Graphics > Photoshop. There's a section for brushes. The curly effect should be the vereds curved brushes.

many brushes are free, so no worries about that. All other warez talk must be done off the forum.
Most background stuff is made by the person themself: brushes, spikey things, photos... all done by the artist.

Make your own stuff, that's all I have to say... With Photoshop it shouldn't be hard.

Okay, cool. Thanks everyone! I was trying to figure out it what I was seeing was some form of clip-art skillfully overlaid in the background, downloadable brushes, or if it was hand-done art. Obviously, I need to get a tablet eventually so I can start drawing my own textures and spiky things (I just can't draw admirably with a mouse... :) ). Thanks!
