Re: What Harry Potter House are you?
Nope. Hufflepuff is not a house of rejects. Who told you it is?
-
Re: What Harry Potter House are you?
No one used the term rejects. Peeps need to stop trying to start arguments

?I'm not?
I'm just asking you why do you think people who don't fit anywhere else go to Hufflepuff. I don't recall this...I thought members of every house are characterized by certain unique, distinctive personality features?

Re: What Harry Potter House are you?
I wanted Gryffindor or Slitherin

People who are loyal friends. That encompasses a lot though, dont you think?

Psh. Same can be said about all the houses. It's all rather general and obscure, don't you think?

For Gryffindor, yeah, I can see that. Ravenclaws are very studious people [people who like to study, aim for top grades, etc. Hermione was almost put into Ravenclaw]. Slytherin are very arrogant, many are "pure bloods" because of this. Gryffindor are really just brave and courageous, another fairly vague trait.
Nerdy people will be Ravenclaw, snobby people tend to be Slytherin, and then theres a 50/50 chance of being in Hufflepuff or Grynffindor if youre neither of those.
But thats just *my* breakdown of the houses.

Re: What Harry Potter House are you?
My breakdown of the houses is that Rowling puts you in Hufflepuff if she wants your character to be forgotten.

Normally I'm not one to argue, but stereotypes always leave a bad taste in my mouth, and as a Hufflepuff, I can't see the reasoning in your perception. I'm pretty sure anyone from any house is capable of doing anything they want. For example, a person from Hufflepuff could be just as willing to save someone's life, as anyone else, just as any one person from Gryffindor may choose not to save someone's life.
In the end, the house does not define the wizard. The wizard defines the house.

Re: What Harry Potter House are you?
I would always get Slytherin or Ravenclaw in random tests but then Pottermore decided once and for all that I am a Slytherin. :D
I see it as Gryffindors being brave, maybe brash, headstrong. More of the act first, think later types. Ravenclaws would be the opposite of that. More studious and tactful people. Perhaps the kind to approach problems in a not-so-orthodox manner. Slytherins are resourceful, tactful and ambitious (maybe prepared to take advantage of anything to fulfill ends. Perhaps a more analytic perspective in which they are less likely to allow personal feelings to influence things~) and Hufflepuff is difficult to define because we don't get many of them written about. Loyalty is probably quite general but I figure they're more selfless and laid back?

Nothing wrong with that. Its a matter of personal interpretation. And lets be real, some little test someone made isnt a good judge of what house we really would be in. You might have gotten Hufflepuff from the test, but you couldve been housed in Gryffindor if it was up to the sorting hat.

Didn't the hat say that he puts in you the house that the wizards deeply wants?

It sort of goes with what Sirius said about how we all have light and dark inside of us and that is it what we choose to follow that defines us. So in the end its choice. It is your choice where you end up.
I dont remember exactly how it was all worded so its all a little fuzzy to me but if you remember even a sliver of these scenes im sure you understand what im saying.

Ah, yeah, I remember what you mean. I figured he'd only be in Slytherin because he was a horocrux and thus was getting Voldemorts aura too, but since the hat was torn between the two houses and Harry asked not to be put in Slytherin he was put in Gryffindor instead.
Its still interesting though. It would also explain Hermione.

Ahh you mean Hermione got placed in Gryffindor because she chose to? If so, that is a little strange why would she do that. I now read up a little on wikia and it seems they imply that even back then Hermione saw greater challenge in her to become "bold and corageous" and that she valued these traits. Since she was already smart and studious to begin with, I guess that does sort of make sense.

What Allison said, and:
Although the Sorting Hat apparently favors putting Harry in Slytherin House, he is, of course, equally well suited to Gryffindor, which is noted for nobility and bravery, and, in many ways, seemingly opposite to Slytherin. Also, Harry's parents were both Gryffindors. Harry has certainly shown he is noble, and has already demonstrated much courage in his young life, first by standing up to the Dursleys, then by entering a strange, unknown world, and now, as he challenges the Sorting Hat. Rather than passively waiting for it to make its selection, he specifically requests not to be sorted into Slytherin. Most students probably never question or oppose which House they are assigned, and though the Hat senses Harry's talents are suitable to Slytherin, it never forces a choice on him. Instead, it entices Harry by wondering where it should place him. Harry's request shows his growing ability to consider all options and make his own decisions based on that. Even if fate has decreed that he is to one day challenge Voldemort, Harry possesses the power to affect that fate by his own design. This trait is re-emphasized in the next book and throughout the series. After some negotiating, the Hat places him in Gryffindor. It should be noted that Harry never actually requested to be in Gryffindor or the other Houses, rather he chose not to be sorted into Slytherin, a House that, to him, represents a dark path.
