Re: How did You... Anime?
Started out with Fullmetal Alchemist when it first came out, became instantly hooked, and then I developed an insatiable thirst for anime :P
Re: How did You... Anime?
A friend showed me Dragonball Z once, randomly.
But after that, it was seeing adverts on Toonami (Back then it was called CNX, I think..) for Outlaw Star. So really, it was Outlaw Star that got me hugely into anime. =/
Re: How did You... Anime?
My sister (who got it from my dad:P)
Re: How did You... Anime?
Besides seeing Pokemon as any other child did back in its beginnings or watching some Cobra on my VHS as a little kid I was first formally introduced to anime by my high school friend. He got me real hooked on anime! But then I grew away from it, took a break from all anime except One Piece and Naruto which I have re-watched respectively like 2-3 times ^^ And now im back again to watch all animes ;D
Re: How did You... Anime?
One of the reason why I was glad for having a sister. xDD
Re: How did You... Anime?
Discounting pokemon and DBZ (I watched them, but I never really got hooked), I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion on the advice of a friend in first year uni. Since then I got dragged down into this horrible pit of depravity and despair, clawing to get anything new I can, desperate to feed my addiction. I once killed a man for his wallet so I could buy the box set of FMA:B. I sell my body regularly to pay for my manga hits. One day, people will find my body, covered in low-quality One Piece volumes, dead from an overdose...
:p
Re: How did You... Anime?
Outside of the obvious I used to watch as a wee little child without even knowing the word "anime" (Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, etc) and even a couple I watched as I got a bit older while still being ignorant to the existence of the word (InuYasha, Blood+, Trinity Blood), it was Naruto. I discovered while on Google videos one day (before I discovered YouTube) that Naruto videos were called AMVs, which I eventually found out the meaning for. I started looking up other AMVs and came across series that I recognized and somehow started discovering more and more and was pretty much instantly hooked. X)
Wow...I never realized really how many I actually did watch before I realized they were anime until just now. O.O Man I was slow. lol
Re: How did You... Anime?
Unlike a lot of people I didn't watch it when I was young with the exception of Hamtaro but that was so long ago I barely remember it.
I was actually having a lot of problems feeling depressed and moping and crying all the time when I came across anime on Adult Swim (I remember Bleach, FLCL, and Cowboy Bebop) once night and it really turned my attitude around... after a while I got hooked and had to find more stuff to watch :) Something fun and silly to take my mind of things ^^
Re: How did You... Anime?
I've been watching anime ever since pokemon and dragonball z though at that time I wasn't aware of the word anime existing. I learned about what anime was when I first saw inuyasha. Then I noticed after finding online anime sites just how many shows I watched were really anime.
Re: How did You... Anime?
I have been into sci-fi since I can remember but never really into anime. However lots of my sci-fi friends were into anime, just I never really tried it. Years later, after being super bored with selections on netflix, I thought I'd try anime to see after all these years why some of my firends liked it so. So it was pretty much a random act one night while trying to stay up late to prepare myself for upcoming nightshifts at work.
Re: How did You... Anime?
When Cardcaptors first came on TV it became my favourite show when I was younger. A few years later I found a Cardcaptors toy at the mall and bringing back old memories I began to watch it online. After doing pretty much nothing but watch it for a couple days, I wanted to watch another show similar to it. I saw a button with Ed and Al from FMA and recognizing it from late night channel surfing watched it, got hooked, and wanted more.
Re: How did You... Anime?
7th grade a friend of mine pulls what was either a volume of FMA or Vampire Knight (I don't really remember witch it was, it could have been both :P ) told me to read it, I was instantly hooked, then one night at her house I was up past midnight wathcing the disk set of FMA she had, and that was the first time I knowingly watched anime, yup, you never can turn back, can you? It's an adiction of the highest caliber.
Re: How did You... Anime?
Like many from the 90's it was due to Toonami. Though the main show that did it was Rurouni Kenshin.
Re: How did You... Anime?
I got hooked to Pokemon..and the rest is history.
Re: How did You... Anime?
Captain Tsubasa and Slam Dunk, following by DBZ.
Re: How did You... Anime?
<_< >_> >_< It was Sailor Moon! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Why not a cooler show?!?!?!?! But it's the truth Sailor Moon just made me get interested in anime and then Toonami got me hooked with Rounin Warriors and Outlaw Star.
Re: How did You... Anime?
Doraemon piqued my interest, but Yuyu Hakusho got me hooked with more anime.
Re: How did You... Anime?
Definetely Cardcaptors Sakura. I remember the evening my dad came home with the 12th volume series. It was my first manga and anime (besides Pokemon). -Tear.-
Re: How did You... Anime?
Actually before DBZ, I watched Haha wo Tazunete Sanzenri...The Spanish version was the shit.
Truly Anime Boss here.
Re: How did You... Anime?
My first anime DVD I purchased was Kiki's Delivery Service. After that, I was hooked on Studio Gibley films. I later purchased the complete season of RahZephon and Anime has been my passion ever since.
Re: How did You... Anime?
Re: How did You... Anime?
My brother is to blame for my anime obsession, actually.
Growing up, we were practically attached at the hip, and so I'd always spend time watching shows like Pokemon or Dragon Ball Z in the afternoons with him.
Eventually, I branched off into my own and got into shows like Sailor Moon.
Re: How did You... Anime?
Sailor Moon and Ronin Warriors were some of the first anime I ever watched. I didn't really know what it was back then, I was like 8-9 at the time. Then my folks got satellite when I was a teenager and it was Ani-Midnight on the action channel that really got me going: both series of Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor, Black Magic M66, Shadow Skill, and several others. My husband has been all too happy to fuel the madness since then. :D
Re: How did You... Anime?
I picked up a manga of death note from a Borders store when they were still in business Q.Q that was the start...I had no idea what it was, because i had never seen this drawing style in america before! It was also backwards, which was so strange to me. I thought the art was the coolest thing ever...i remember seeing Light Yagami and Ryuk in the first volume and i confronted my mom with it. She was cautious in buying it because it was a graphic novel and it had a little warning for parents on the front ^.^;; i was so happy with it! But then i finished it. I was in hysterics xD i wanted that next volume so bad! By the next christmas i had achieved all 13 and that started my hunger for manga-collecting. Reading it online just doesn't do it for me. I must have the book. c: There's something to the smell and feel of a fresh, crisp new manga.
-realizes this was supposed to be talking about anime- T.T;;
WELL that first experience also got me into Anime ^.^ cause i was curious to watch the series of Death Note. Then i just began watching a ton of other series and fell in love with both manga AND anime ^o^
