Japanese hates western cosplayers
The recent issue is cosmode that have stopped featuring western cosplayers starting December 2010 due to complains from many Otaku in Japan. To anyone who don't know about cosmode, cosmode is one of the Cosplay oriented magazine in Japan and the only one who frequently featured western cosplayers on 1 - 2 of its pages on its every new release. What cosmode doing is understandable because it is a profit oriented business magazine, so rather than losing more sales it decided to do what its readers want especially when it have to compete with other Cosplay oriented magazine in Japan.
It is also understandable of what the Otaku in Japan feeled because what they feel also the same with what most other Otaku in the world feeled who don't like to see western cosplayers cosplaying Anime or other Asian based characters. This fact proven by how almost all of the Cosplay videos, Cosplay blogs, Cosplay websites and other Cosplay related media on the net are only featuring Asian cosplayers, including the one made by westerners [ not by western cosplayers ] are also almost all of it featuring Asian cosplayers.
The Otaku in Japan are the biggest and most fanatics Anime fans in the world, proven by how Maid Cafe, Harajuku, Akihabara and other Anime related place and stuff like that can exist and grow well in Japan. The existence of the term "Moeru" and "Naeru" also proves it because those 2 term are a made term by the Otaku in Japan, where "Moeru" used to refer to a cute person who look like certain Anime characters while "Naeru" used to refer to a cosplayers who not look like the Anime characters they cosplaying which 99% used against western cosplayers by the Otaku in Japan.

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
Well, what about anime characters that are SUPPOSED to be American, or British, or whatever else? If they disapprove of Westerners cosplaying these characters, they're just racist.
-
Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
There is no racism in speaking the truth, I don't believe Japanese who hate western cosplayers because of race issue but because Japanese never see western cosplayers suited to Cosplay Anime characters do to westerners not have the right facial & body form, that is objective so no racism there.

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
I think I may have seen this guy on another forum, some time ago.
Or it could be some other guy who gets his giggles from poking the proverbial hornets nest.

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
@1900 Cups,
I say one and a half months. No betting required.
On Topic:
I must agree with the cosplaying. Seriously, the people really never do look like who they are cosplaying at all. Miku? Sure, give the most random person you can find a blue wig that isn't even done in ponytails with an oversized tie and tell me that's her.
Nobody rant or comment too seriously now, I think there's a definite elephant in the room...

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
Japanese basicly saying westerners never and will never able to look like Japanese, and surely that is not racism.
-
Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
I think the Japanese are just having a hard time getting used to seeing Westerners, PERIOD.
They are, after all, a fairly xenophobic/外人恐怖症 country.

I also believe no Japanese pride stuff in here because cosmode still featuring Chinese, Korean and other Asian cosplayers on it. It is just a suited and not suited issue.

I thought the point of cosplaying was to have fun. Why should looking Japanese/Asian be a requirement to cosplaying?

Well if they can say that I can say no Japanese will ever be able to look like westerners, and surely that is not racist.

Japanese people don't look like anime characters. They should really stop cosplaying.

For Japanese and I'm sure the same for westerners [ even there are many westerners who denied it ] Cosplay are to look like/impersonate the characters. This is proven by how almost all Anime conventions that not only in Japan but also in western countries always held Cosplay competition or Cosplay look-alike contest.
And ofcourse it is not racist to say "Japanese will never able to look like westerners" because that is the truth.

You can say that only when you have more rights over Anime than Japanese.

Wikilink
I don't see anything in there about having similar facial features...

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
Fun stuff.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was racism, though. If their attitude toward Koreans is any indication.

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
Hey MightASIAN, it's been a while since you've come to spam your crap here. This is your 7th account now, isn't it? Your persistence is praiseworthy.
And Japan being full of hyper-nationalists and xenophobes is nothing new; this has been common knowledge for decades. Not to mention all the basement dwelling otaku would rather stare mindlessly at 2D child porn that real women anyway.

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
Yeah, PAG is one of our repeat trolls. Hey PAG! Haven't banned you in a while O_o; I am sure I'll get a chance to do so soon. And no, he isn't in Japan.
Actually I am curious, have you ever been to Japan?
-
Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
No offense to anybody but I think that's kind of stupid. Anime/manga characters very, very rarely actually look like any specific ethnicity. Sure they are often set in certain locations that indicate an ethnicity but to say that you don't like westerners cosplaying because they don't look like a specific ethnicity is just kind of... dumb.

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
Well Ain't the Information superhighway just jam packed full of interesting characters.
Chris Chan anyone?

Re: Japanese hates western cosplayers
They should just get used to it - my girlfriend does cosplay as well as my two best female friends.
