sentence translation
hey,
I've recently received a wall scroll from Japanese friends. They didn't quite succeed in explaining what exactly was written on the scroll.
If anyone can tell me what the english translation is, I'd be very grateful.
I think it's probably poetic but...
This is what it says:
福寿海無量
The reading they told me is: fuku ju kai ryou ( ふくじゅかいむりょう )
the only thing I can make out is 海 , sea. right?
Thanks a lot.

It reads fukujukaimuryô
I think it rougly means "To have a long (and happy) life is endless like the sea (or maybe is immeasurable like the sea)"
It has to do with buddhism....Last two Kanji also appear in Words for Amitabha Buddha
sorry I can not explain more thouroughly, maybe someone else can...
Also linking stuff from your harddisc is most likely not to suceed ^^
You might wanna change that...

Thanks a lot. Looks like a decent translation ;) . No seriously, thanks :) .
I don't know what happened with the hard drive thingy, I was just pasting Hiragana from the program I type Japanese with...
Well, anyway, thanks a bunch :) .

This is similar to the phrase:
風林火山 (Fuurinkazan)
(Lit. Wind, forest, fire, mountain.)
(Trans. Move as swift as a wind, stay as silent as forest, attack as fierce as fire, immovable like a mountain.)
It comes from Sun Tzu's art of war and was split into two passages in the original Chinese:
Chapter 7, passage 13: “故其疾如風,其徐如林“ Let your rapidity be that of the wind, your compactness that of the forest.
Chapter 7, passage 14: “侵掠如火,不動如山“ In raiding and plundering be like fire, be immovable like a mountain.
I apologize is this was offtopic, it just seemed a nice thing to share here.
