Also, I can assure you westerners botch cosplaying much more than the Japanese. At the same time, a random magazine's removal of western cosplay from their galleria in every issue does not matter enough to rant. So I repeat, do not feed the troll.
We'll simply contrinue with our cosplay, let the Japanese continue with theirs, and enjoy in our own way. Who needs spotlight from a magazine we've never heard of anyway?
The recent issue is cosmode that have stopped featuring western cosplayers starting December 2010 due to complains from many Otaku in Japan. To anyone who don't know about cosmode, cosmode is one of the Cosplay oriented magazine in Japan and the only one who frequently featured western cosplayers on 1 - 2 of its pages on its every new release. What cosmode doing is understandable because it is a profit oriented business magazine, so rather than losing more sales it decided to do what its readers want especially when it have to compete with other Cosplay oriented magazine in Japan.
It is also understandable of what the Otaku in Japan feeled because what they feel also the same with what most other Otaku in the world feeled who don't like to see western cosplayers cosplaying Anime or other Asian based characters. This fact proven by how almost all of the Cosplay videos, Cosplay blogs, Cosplay websites and other Cosplay related media on the net are only featuring Asian cosplayers, including the one made by westerners [ not by western cosplayers ] are also almost all of it featuring Asian cosplayers.
The Otaku in Japan are the biggest and most fanatics Anime fans in the world, proven by how Maid Cafe, Harajuku, Akihabara and other Anime related place and stuff like that can exist and grow well in Japan. The existence of the term "Moeru" and "Naeru" also proves it because those 2 term are a made term by the Otaku in Japan, where "Moeru" used to refer to a cute person who look like certain Anime characters while "Naeru" used to refer to a cosplayers who not look like the Anime characters they cosplaying which 99% used against western cosplayers by the Otaku in Japan.
I love you, bro. You speak the truth! :)
lol.

Fail troll is fail. Just add fail grammar.
Seriously, though, Otakus are not limited to just Japan and other Asian countries. So what are these 'most other Otaku(s)' you speak of? Quit being racist.

Anime characters resemble Asians no more than they resemble whites. They don't resemble ANY real people most of the time. Japanese people actually hate western cosplayers because westerners often SUCK at cosplaying, hardly ever making high quality costumes/props, and usually are a bunch of fat retarded basement dwellers with no life (not all of them, but most of them). Just look at all the western cosplayer pictures on the internet, if you don't believe me.
I don't see anything in there about having similar facial features...
Words and action always 2 very diferent things, if you really want to prove Cosplay are not to look like/impersonate the characters then prove that there is no Cosplay competition or Cosplay look alike contest especially in western countries you lived. Also why would you care so much with what Japanese said or think about western cosplayers when you keep saying Cosplay are for fun?
I find it very disgustingly ironic that many westerners would care so much and even complain about this issue when westerners themselves keep saying the reason they Cosplay are for fun and not to look like the characters they cosplaying. By caring so much with what the Japanese think about them are only showing the reason they Cosplay are not for fun but to look for attentions which can only be achieved by trying to look like the Anime characters they cosplaying, which made them as a bunch of disgusting hypocrites. Logically, when peoples doing something for fun then they will not care with what other peoples said about them, especially will not jealous then start saying all kind of nonsense about the one they are jealous of when other peoples said there are others who do better than them. I also find it very disgustingly ironic that westerners keep saying they Cosplay for fun while they keep making Cosplay competition or Cosplay look-alike contest in every Anime convention they make since 10 years ago to this day.

I just took a flight back to China and it wasn't pleasant, but upon opening this thread just when I logged in on the forum made my day even worse.
I mean seriously, dude? What the heck is wrong with you? You've got racism written all over your posts. Cosplay is truely and obviously for fun and those who do it well and actually look like the characters they're portrating are more passionate about it than others. There's no point on saying one has to look exactly like the character, that's just ridiculous.
I am Asian, and you my dear Asian are not making me happy with your so called Asian pride.
Troll, get a life.

Okay first. Shall we ban Halloween because it's racist? Cosplaying and dressing up for Halloween is absolutely no different. When people dress up as Hanna Montana they don't look like her. When people dress up as pumpkins they don't look like pumpkins. When people dress up as a ghost they surely are no where near resembling a ghost since I can clearly see it.
Also anime characters look more like Americans than anything. They are as white as can be when drawn and never have a rounded face like Asians typically have and are more narrow like Americans.
It really just comes down to the fact of not resemblance but rather. Americans can't use a sewing machine and usually make pretty crappy costumes. I work at an anime convention here in the US so I see all sorts of costumes pass before me. The better ones are typically made by the Asian population. And quite frankly they are more better with textiles than Americans are so it wouldn't be surprising.
But as actual features there's hardly any difference. It also comes down to the fact people have more of an Asian fetish than American fetish.

If all anime characters are Japanese, anime world hair dye sellers and plastic surgeons must make a mint.
That is all.

The racist aspect is absurd, and the magazine is one in many. If we can't even trust the skipper's topic, how can we trust his claiming that this is the last stand for western cosplayers in Japan?
