Yes indeed they are quite rare at least out of the animes that i've watched. I did think of hat fat girl from One Piece which you had a picture of ;D Dun' remember her name, Alviva? ^^ But its like Miyazaki once said, dont quote me on this its just my own wordings that I vaguely remember: I cant not make my protagonist to be attractive.

I was gonna say, your point being? ^_^ But then I looked closer and man oh man she has got one heck of a baby face! ;O But still, she is far from ugly imo ^^ Her haircut isnt ridicilous by any means seeing as we are talking about animeverse here ;D Everyone has ridicilous hair there ^^

For myself, sakura is one of the ugly girl I highly think so... She was beautiful when she was young, however

Difference between "ridiculous" and "absurd" is subtle yet existing: Yue's haircut is ridiculous meaning that it is a potentially "doable" haircut, and still noone would ever wear it, as horrible as it is.

Ugly girls are so hard to find in these series except in specific circumstances.

Aoki's girlfriend Tomoko from Hajime no Ippo is a good example, though she has become gradually more attractive with time. Theirs is the only stable long-term relationship in the manga so far.

Ugly girls eh? Um, I rather enjoyed Princess Jellyfish, though I'm not certain on calling them ugly. They weren't drawn to traditional standards though. They were um...unique...to say the least.
