I think they started going down right when they hit DJ hero. The games are expensive.. The guitars/instruments are expensive. And all you need is your friend to have one. You can just play it at their place.
No need to buy any. Plus they are not cross platform either :[ I have it for the PS2. But I have the PS3 now and it's all I play so everything sorta went to waste. I'm not spending all that extra money to get everything so I can play it on the PS3 as well.
I was about to post this, heh.
Anyways, yeah..I think Rock Band should do though.
@Blue: Well, 200 bucks for a full bundle and it's compatible with the sequels..but yeah, a still pricey.
EDIT: No More True Crime? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

About time they stopped. They should just keep releasing DLC content since most people are usually looking for new songs.
This was a long time coming, imo.
I mean, how many installments of the same exact game, just with different songs can one possibly make?
It seems Rock Band wins for good.
I have never been a fan...mainly due to the fact that I am terrible at this type of game so there is no love loss hear.
Good bye and good riddance.
Am I the only one who's actually sorry to hear this? I've logged 999 hours on both World tour and 5 on Wii, I'll be sad that I never got the chance with 6. I think they'll keep doing DLC for a while for GH6, but that's about it. I'll have to switch over to Rockband 3 now though...which is pretty expensive itself. But I'll keep playing the Guitar Hero games I have and wait for Guitar Hero 7. If they never make it...I'll keep waiting for Guitar Hero 7.
It's not the same thing over and over btw. Each (main) game brought some new gameplay features that weren't previously available. World Tour brought the rest of the band and open notes, 5 brought HO/PO chords and a pretty decent Mii Freestyle mode, and 6 brought sustained Open Notes. And of course new songs with each version. Also, Guitar Hero: Metallica, while not in the main series, brought Expert+ for drums. To be quite honest, that's about the same as a fighting game with new characters, or a shooter with new maps. They add what they can, no use adding anything like a keyboard though. By adding a keyboard they're limiting the songs they can put on-disc and for DLC. Not to mention making it more expensive than it already was.
Hyphen has a point, every Guitar Hero wasn't a rehash or it's prequel...it always brought something new or improved something.
The only reason I liked Guitar Hero was because I could play it on my DS, but hey, we still have Rock Band!
I just heard about this recently and I'm kinda saddened by it myself. I really liked the concept of the series but had a pain of a time trying to get rid of my guitar hero 2 and 3 and controllers.
I am a Rock Band fan through and through, but if it wasn't for Guitar Hero, I would never have picked up the electric... Err... Plastic electric... Guitar.
When I found out that they were cancelling Guitar Hero, I wondered one thing:
Why, cruel world, why?! Why couldn't it be that DJ Hero game??
I'd say, that was probably Neversoft's most intelligent project. After messing and destroying almost every other project they started, the concept of that game was probably their best, although some sort of gothic themes and songs choosen to be iconic of the game were not the most appropriate. But yet, one of their greatest flaw: improving, ended up causing the end of another project.
