Radical Environmentalists..
Alright, so I have a pet corn snake, and I went to the pet store the other day to buy her a live mouse to eat. (Keep in mind I just recently moved to Arizona and not under the same laws as I was in Colorado.) So I walk in and ask a clerk if I could get one, and they tell me that they don't sell mice because Arizona passed a law that it was "inhumane" to sell live mice to feed reptiles and other animals. At the same time, however, they sell frozen mice for you to unthaw and feed your snake.
To me, that's ridiculous. That's how a lot of snakes and other animals eat mice in the wild. Live. What, do they go out into the desert and give each snake unthawed mice? What's the difference? Do frozen mice not count even though they were raised and then killed to be later eaten?
This is somewhat of a rant, but I really think some environmentalists are just insane, and really go too far in pushing their agendas. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for recycling, keeping environments clean, and protecting animals and whatnot, but to write off feeding live mice to carnivores as inhumane even though that's nature, is too much.
Thoughts? Arguments?
Re: Radical Environmentalists..
I don't think you're talking so much about environmentalists as you are animal rights activists. Animal rights activists seem to think that when humans facilitate natural acts, they are being unnecessarily cruel.

Ah yes. You're right, I often mix them up since they're always pushing for policies anyway. Some I think are good, some are alright, and others just flat out crazy.
Re: Radical Environmentalists..
My buddy in Mesa feeds his snake live mice. The people you talked to are douche bags.
Re: Radical Environmentalists..
@Kaleohano
No, the clerk was not a douche. He/she doesn't pass laws or decide what to sell in the store. Just telling ya how it is.
@SolanaNight
You're just gonna have to adapt to changes like that.
Re: Radical Environmentalists..
As long as your snake gets the food it needs I don't see the reason to complain.

Forgot to bring this up on my last post. There is literally no point in bringing up nature because your snake doesn't live in the wild, it lives with you, if you want your snake to eat live prey then throw it out in the wild. I mean I can see where people are getting upsetting at throwing live mice at a snake because that must be a terrible way to die and people have mice as pets, it's just the way that you think about mice that makes you want to throw them live at snakes but imagine if they through dogs or cats (live or not) to snakes.

buys the mice, throws them into the cage to be hunted.
Re: Radical Environmentalists..
That's not really what hunting is.
Re: Radical Environmentalists..
Animal rights are a subject very close to my heart, and I love mice, they are so cute! However, a snake needs to eat and in the wild it would catch it's prey live. Personally I could never own a snake because I would be too upset about the mice dying. However, I don't think an animal eating it's natural prey (live or frozen) can ever be considered 'cruel'.
Seems like a silly law.

Whether it lives in a terrarium or out in the wild, animals still have instincts, and my snake still has an instinct to hunt its food. Yes, I can understand why people would be upset, but that doesn't mean they can tell other people not to feed their pets their natural diet because they pity the mice. If someone had a pet snake that fed on cats and dogs and they fed it cats and dogs, then yeah it would bother me, but I would be okay with it. Why? Because animals eat other animals. It happens, it's the circle of life. Just because it disturbed me a bit doesn't mean I would go around trying to get laws passed forbidding people from simply feeding an animal its natural diet.
So, if feeding live mice to snakes is really so cruel, which by the way is a very quick process, then how is raising mice to later be frozen to death then unthawed not cruel? If you ask me, freezing the mice is a much more inhumane way for them to die. That's my main point in all this. That whether I buy frozen ones or lives ones, it doesn't change the fact that the mouse dies and is getting fed to the snake.

Yeah I agree. The mice are pretty cute which is why I avoid looking at them. >_> But yeah, that's what I'm saying. Whether the mice are frozen or live, they're still going to get eaten either way, so I really don't see the point in presentation. I don't know why they feel this need to water down natural occurrences.
