hey there this may seem like a strange request, but is there a single japanese symbol for something along the lines of "perseverance", or of meaning similar to that. thanks in advance
...For the old members of AnimeLyrics.com, I'm baaaack. And so is my "traditional" thread. =) For those who don't know what this thread is...I often type up kanji lyrics (and romaji) from lyric scans. But since I don't know a lot of kanji, I'll often need help. So I'll copy the kanji images I...

Hello everyone. I weren't sure if this actually was the right place to post this, but I take a chance. A few months I started reading a little about the japanese language, and found out that if I wanted to learn the language (as I am), I start with learning Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. The two...

So, translating again, and I've run into something else the various dictionaries I have access to are unable to provide a definition for, clearly the word in my title. I've been able to find a few words that end in 変わらず, such as 相変わらず. Judging from the meaning of the base character, I'd think that...
I was working my way through a doujinshi (where I get most of my translation practice from), and I ran across a confusingly worded sentence. Confusing to me, anyway, which says little. The sentence reads thus: 私の普段してることをわかってもらおうと思ってうそついちゃったの… Breaking it down grammatically isn't too bad,...

Hi, I tried to practice translating Japanese sentences now but I'm not sure if I got them correct or wrong. It's all based on my limited Japanese knowledge from some online dictionary, and also babel fish.. and maybe you guys can help me learning more. :) The 1st one: 気になったもので - ki ni natta...
I received a note in private saying that any intermediate knowing what 否定 means. I've never seen these kanji put together in my life (or if I have, I forgot about it or didn't bother trying to look it up). I'm not an intermediate. The LYRICS LV 2 tag may fool people into thinking I am. I can't...
I've been teaching myself Japanese over the past six years or so, on and off, extremely sporadically; I've never taken a single class, and, until I discovered Jim Breen's online dictionary, my only tools were a simple dictionary, a basic grammar, and a fairly comprehensive kanji dictionary....

OK, so I have my final assignment project for my Japanese class due on Wednesday evening (GMT -5:00), and I just got my script (it's a skit) back from the TA who was supposed to be correcting it. He's a Japanese exchange student, so he made all his corrections in Kanji. Unfortunately, I know...

I'm trying to translate some song titles into English because I can't find any already translated titles. Does anyone mind telling me how badly I botched the job. All I used was a dictionary and some context (these are from the Fate / Stay Night OST) Here's what I got so far. No need to hold...
Another phrase I've run across a couple of times and haven't been able to find a satisfactory definition for is 話は別だけど (and some similar variations). From what I can piece together from context, it seems to run along the same lines as "but that's a different story," or "That's another matter,...
皆さん、ひさしぶり~ 元気? I've been thinking of having some kind of Japanese language contest in the forum. Something to try out your skills, have a little fun with Japanese, etc etc. Any ideas? So far I was thinking haiku (5-7-5 style), jokes, or calligraphy/kana art.
On a Japanese cell phone, instead of "contacts" (you know, as in the list of names of people you have on there) would it say コンタクト or would it be more like 連絡会? Or is it something entirely different?
