Hey, I was just curious as to how some of you learned Japanese?
I have always been interested in learning it, but at my high school, they do not offer it, but they do offer Chinese, however, not enough people ever join to make the class happen. Is their any similarity between the two? I mean, I...
Kanji....what can I say about kanji.
Probably the most frustrating thing for those of us learning Japanese as a foreign language is kanji. Kanji are both amazing and depressing at times. Bottom line, learning kanji is a life-long endeavor for most of us.
What does everyone think?...
Many learners of Japanese start out by writing in romanji. While this is ok, it is not going to help your Japanese progress. Besides, kanji looks really cool! So, here are some links for helping to type in and read the Japanese characters.
If you have microsoft, get your hands on the IME....

So, I'm going to Japan in about a week and a half (12 days and counting!), and I was wondering if there was anything I should know before I go there. I've taken 4 language classes at my University, so my grammar is probably at maybe a grade 2 (Japanese native) level, and my vocabulary (which I...

I know the topic sounds a tad silly, but that's pretty much the best descriptive subject I could come up with.
Anyhow, I'm interested in learning different ways to join two sentences together, and I don't seem to be able to find any good webpages for a reference.

Lol, I don't really know how to speak Japanese, but I know some. But anyway, I need a little bit of help with the particles (like wa, de, to, etc. etc).
I'm a little confused, but I'll use a mangled Japanese sentence (by yours truly) to see my point. Here's one sentence: 海をまいる (I...

Why does the stroke order matter?
How can a 7th grader start learning basic japanese with or without (probably without) kanji and without buying much, I don't really want to get realy serious into it yet, and I can't buy and program, and maybe only one book if needed. I also don't want to bother my parents with it. Is it still...
The Japanese class I took stunk. I learned hiragana, katakana, and some kanji, but she never really taught us the basics of sentence structure, so I could never articulate any thoughts in the language. Would anyone have any advice?
