In the game that'd be due to the eight servant, Avenger who came about because a piece of the grail was put inside of her. Avenger tried to summon himself by taking over her.

My knowledge is kinder limited to the anime.

I would like to point out something about the archer class. There's a reason the one from the anime can do that. You need to have played the visual novel to find that out, yes, the game came first. Archer is actually Shiro from the future. Servants aren't actually bound by time. in fact the Unlimited Blade Works is a reality marble that Shiro gained when he was alive. In fact the two blades are his Noble Phantasm.
