Hi,

I wanted to tell you guys that the other day that I was at the Great Mall and there is this place called 'Tokyo Animation' that prints you guys' wallpapers and sells them for money. So I thought you should know about it...

Well my images aren't copyrighted, so it doesn't bother me, but i'm sure it would probably bother a few others.

(I'm not sure about the rights that animewallpapers makes on the images I submit to them.)

i don't particularly care what's done with mine, so long as it nothing inapropriate. but i don't know about the people who generated the source pictures, they may not like the idea quite as much

Here is what the AW terms of service is as stated on the website

No more than 10 of our wallpapers can be on your website at the same time. If you want to use more, please just link to AnimeWallpapers.com and tell your visitors to come to our website to get the wallpapers.

Do not modify the wallpaper images. For example, you cannot remove the AnimeWallpapers.com logo from the bottom.

Do not inline our images on your website; it won't work. Copy the images to your own webspace before using them.

You must provide a link to us from your website. Someone who sees our wallpaper on your site should be able to find AnimeWallpapers.com easily; we suggest putting our link under each individual wallpaper that you post.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
If you think about it, wallpaper artists are technically stealling the images of the characters, but we are not using them for profit. I will pass this on to pmak (AW admin). Also, try contacting the production companies about the illegal use of their characters for profit by that store.
AnimeWallpapers.com is in pretty much the same boat with wallpapers as GameFAQs.com is with FAQs. See GameFAQs.com's suggestions to their contributors about what to do against copyright infringement at http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/help/hcontrib_2c.html ("I found a web site using my guide without permission. What should I do?" section) - basically:
AnimeWallpapers.com has no legal authority to stop this activity. Only the original artist of a wallpaper can take action against copyright infringement.
in germany a big catalogue of anime dvds uses a lot of aw wallpapers as images for their reviews and such ... i tried talking to them but they were first cooperative then no answer ... and by the way i printed some out and got them on my wall in my room ... thats not forbidden or ?
by the way i printed some out and got them on my wall in my room
That's fine; it's like putting them on your desktop, except you're putting them on your wall.
Well i found some of my wallpapers on a paysite recently...and damn i was pretty p***ed off then, for i hate dialers ....
Even if i provided them for free (and never made or published restictions for using them, nor cared about it so far), i think THAT is deceit, for people are paying for stuff thatīs basically free IMHO itīs a crime...
Printing out pictures (wpīs and other..) on your own expense
and your choice is all right, but having other parties enriching themselves
on work they didnīt do , sorry that makes me sick...
Even if the artist doesnīt have the copyright on the used characters, those guys certainly dont have them either... and i can claim my right on intellectual property (at least in germany) and have them remove them, if it werenīt a drop in the ocean and far too expansive...
p.s. all typos in the post above are free for use :P
This is a hard hard question...We can't use our walls for profit, because we can't for legal questions(you know, the images that we use aren't ours).
The last year I've bought A Ranma Calendar with two walls on the fitst page:one of cynical126 and one of mine.But they naturally didn't tell me nothing(I've sent an e-mail to them but I had no replies, naturally).
I'm getting my website up, but I've done a long long disclaimer because in Italy there are some copyright troubles sometimes :<_<: :angry: :<_<: ... can I post it here? I want some opinions..
I've had the same thing happen to me repeatedly. It's just something you had to deal with, unfortunately. This is why I suggest adding your name and such to the wall.
Aka-chan, go ahead and post it. it may be very helpful to others. ^-^
instead of persecute, get rid of the "pers" and add "exe" so then we have execute, and all is right with the world.
hmm where should you draw the line with regards to giving copyright tho?... I mean its perfectly feasable to end up in a situation where you would have
Image copyright of ...
Scan from..
Brushes from..
Stock photo from..
3d model from..
Textures from..
Wallpaper by me.
related to a single wall...hell ive got some like that ni my archives. I mean i dont want to offend anyone by not crediting them in some one (im one of those folks that sends nice thank you emails to places i leech from)..
I'm not sure I,ve understood what you say but I try to tell you something. I put the coyright on the bottom of the wall and of everyone of the webpages
For every single wall:I don't use brushes that come from sites, so I don't have any prob.(some for the texture)
I try to scan image by myself or I took images from websites that don't have problem if someone use their ima without telling it(also because I don't have any commercial interest and they DON'T have the copyright for the images that come from anime)or I draw them(I like my fanart ^_^)
If you want to write all the things...write them little little
I wasnt actually replying to you Akachan, more commenting in general, it was your post that brought the topic to the top and put it in my mind after some stuff i was reading earlier on.
hmm perhaps i wasnt clear in what i was saying...lol..its 430pm and ive been up since 3am so please forgive me hehe...
the point i was trying to make (i think) is that many aspects of a wallpapers creation are/can be copyrited, belonging to, related to, derived from (whatever) many different sources and for me, as a wallpaper creater it seems very difficult to credit everyone who is due (mainly due to this its unlikely ill be submitting any more walls untill i get a proper site up and running where i can link to all those good folks)
If you keep the walls for your private use, that's fine. You're using it for your self enjoyment. Copyright kicks in when you have something that you came up with - like a web design, wallpaper background design. Art drawn by the artistes belong to them.
Basically, there's a website for rules that somewhat govern the internet. I can't remember what it is at this point in time. Copyright can differ from country to country- but the general rule is that if you made it, you own intellectual copyright to it.
If they are published in a physical sence, then that more than likely means that the publishing company, or the author has the permishion of the party holding the rights to the anime. we really have no claim or rights. Hell I would love for some one to copy mine, hell I would brag about it 24/7. It just means that I did some thing right. but it would be nice if I got some credit it would go along way if I wanted to use my skills for $.
*finally not joking around* we cant do anything about it really, since we use character images from anime, and we technically dont have permission to use the images for public display and distrubution. order: people take pictures from anime and put the pics on their websites, etc. -> we take the pictures off the sites to make wallpapers -> and these people are taking them from us. it is unfair that they are selling them, but we dont have the legal rights to do anything about it.
