what is the best job classes to play as/with in an RPG and why

things like

cool weapons they have

good skills they they have,

best thing they help with in battle

what sort of outfit they have

my fave job class is warrior or knight/swordsman

I tend to like using warriors since they strong fighters to anything that aint magic in most games plus you can give most of them magic swords or armor and they can take a lot of beatings.

best knight I liked was Cecil from final fantasy 4 he started out a dark knight that became a paladin

When playing Final Fantasy Tactics, my favorite job was always Monk. They're kinda cool looking, and so damn strong. Plus, they have both offensive and defensive abilities, which is nice.

Honorable mention to Calculators though.

Mage. In Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy, they are constantly saving my warriors/paladins/blade-swinging guy.

monks Sabin (rips the kamehameha) and zell (with many str% + aura = endless rapid combos final heaven ;) ) from final fantasy are cool

In any given RPG I tend to play Necromancer or Equivalent, because prank calling the dead and casting spells to give people VD is how I roll.

Monks are everyone's favorite class in FFT because they were so hilariously broken. Same thing goes with whatever Orlandu was (Holy Swordsmen? Or was that the bodyguard-chick?).

Mediator from FFT. I could literally talk someone to death. Now that's power!

mine would have to be ninja or assassin from FFTA (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance), ninjas for thier ability for having 2 swords which give them more attack power which can also carry on to most other classes

the assassin because not only do they have decent attack power but they have acceptional speed they also have some one hit kill attacks like Last Breath

Beserkers. I dont really like the class in itself. More of the concept. Of someone not caring if they are on the verge of dieing and yet still attacking and slashing wildly. Like a crazy old man with a cane. I love it. >>;
The thought anyways . . . .
I've always been partial to the Ninja, than switching over to the Samurai
:]
two sword samurai
what more could you ask for?

right now playing FFV I have samurai and a ninja class in use along with a white mage and dragoon that does lvl 5 black magic

I miss the old 4 member system

Depends on what type of RPG I'm playing...is it real RPG,Action RPG,Hack 'n Slash,Tactical etc.
I'm more into real RPG games...RPG stands for Role-Playing Game,not Let's-GO-And-Kill-Everything-On-Our-Way Game...
Those are games of role-playing,games with personality and ability to role-play...

One thing that connects all those types is their ability to make character exactly as you wish (more or less, except in some of them)...

As for the actual RPG,my favorite choice would be Rogue...or Assassin...
There is nothing better than ability to pull the finest talk, while your skills are comming directly from the shadows, unseen by others...
Combined stealth with deadly attacks (aka backstabs) to give lethal strike and dissapear in the shadows is best for me...
Fine ability of persuasion is another thing interesting in rogue class...
Rogue Swashbuckler, for example (seen mostly in Neverwinter Nights games) is truly a finest sweet-talker with some deadly abilities...
While relaying mostly on their high dexterity (speed, agility and whatever other names are known throughout rpgs),while wearing light or no armor makes them vulnerable, but stealthy, and their ability to talk, and double speach is just amazing...you can have anyone do literally what you want them to do...
You could talk with the emperor on how beautiful his daughter is while he eats the poisoned food you made for him (done in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion)...
Observe them, earn their trust, kill them, pin the crime on another or slipout of town before anyone even notices the crime...
Also, pickpocketing can come in handy,in most situations...some extra gold is never bad in your purse...

While relaying mostly on ranged weapons, they can use effectivelly light weapons as well (daggers and short swords),making full use of their high dexterity...

If given the choice,I would go with Assassin class, mainly because it's a mixture of Rogue and epic Swashbuckler,if the rpg classes are actually following the class faithfully...

Tho there are very few games that are actually having true Assassin as a class, most of them are only creating it as the weaker fighter, with more special skills...
Best example that uses the full potential of Assassin and Rogue classes are The hief 3: Deadly Shadows,Oblivion (Dark Brotherhood quest line, and Thieves guild quest lines),Neverwinter Nights 2,Assassin's Creed,Splinter Cell series,Hitman series, and ofcourse,Velvet Assassin...

Other types are not following the class closely as much as they should, for they are creating the class because of how cool it sounds, and they have casted aside the "why" of it,as well as actual meaning of the class...

the assassin because not only do they have decent attack power but they have acceptional speed they also have some one hit kill attacks like Last Breath

Which is one example of how bad some games make the class...there's more to Assassin class than most people know...
Tho,considering the type of the game, you can't blame the makers for having no clue about assassin as class...

Thief or something similar.

Because nothing says "Hello" like a sneak attack.

I play the TES series a lot more then others. My favorite has to be their mage. But I love their custom classes as well. And the one class I love so much that I made myself is SpellAssasin. :)

to be fair Yuna was half white mage half summoner, most the party memeber in X started out with 2 classes/skill sets like Rikku being half thief half chemist (item mixing) and kimahri half blue mage half dragoon and so on

true but ive come to find out that a lot of the guns class are weaker in attack power then the bow classes, i would say the only thing guns have is more range then a bow, at least with a lot of the rpgs i played

depends on the rpg like FFVIII you can spam home the ap ammo and get max damage 5 time a turn linked with the aura,

the gunner class in FF X-2 had some nice tricks like the trigger happy shot buys the mages a lot of time to cast.

the gunner class in FF X-2 had some nice tricks like the trigger happy shot buys the mages a lot of time to cast.i agree it was helpful espsecially if ur mage did not learn the skills that allow them to cast faster
