Big brothers don't fight little brothers though, so he certainly couldn't/shouldn't hit him back... Not much he could do. He could tell Alphonse it's wrong, but Alphonse knows that already so there wouldn't be any effect.

I often used to help my sis with her martial arts training - its good for them I hope...

But I guess the point is that al is the better fighter. Unfair, but ed is a runt...

Also as has been said - you cant argue with a 7ft suit of nigh indistructable armor!
