Instant Transmission > Flash Step. (In practice they do virtually the same thing, but IT seems to be faster, and has a much greater range.) Trunks actually has several attacks he can use while Ichigo can use like... one, I mean c'mon learn some new attacks.. Rukia has like three and she can use Kido. If Ichigo could use high level Kido Spells, he might have a chance, but Trunks could probably destroy a planet (he beat Freeza who could)... I don't think Hallow Ichigo can do that...

Ichigo is fast, but all of the DBZ characters are fast as well. I guess it would be a pretty even match, but the win would definitely go to Trunks because he has the capacity to destroy a planet; which is something Ichigo could never do.

Probably Ichigo, I think everyone's aware that bleach characters don't die.
If that weren't the case It would be Trunks, as sigmaSD said, Trunks could destroy the entire planet while ichigo isn't even close to such power.

Lol? Ichigo can die... So can all of the other Bleach characters. Some of them even died. Dunno, maybe you were sarcastic, but if you were then seriously...DBZ ones are Number 1 when it comes to dying, coming back to life 1 ep later.

when did one of the main characters die (I'm not sarcastic but I can make mistakes :) )?
DBZ ones are Number 1 when it comes to dying, coming back to life 1 ep later.
Which would make DBZ the winner right? Always coming back to get more is their main asset.

Trunks can't use the Instant Transmission.
Who would win, Trunks would with no prob. Ichigo is a bad-*** but Trunks has to do is hit Ichigo one good time then hit him with a Burning Attack.
Maybe if it was just a swordfight with no powers whatsoever, then it would be a closer battle. but Ichigo would win that the sheer size of Zangetsu and the speed that Ichigo wields it would overwhelm Trunks's sword.

If you take real-time mass and other scientific factors into consideration, there will be a difference.
Zangetsu is quite a big sword. It's safe to assume that it is heavy as a result and due to Ichigo's body composition, weight, height and amount of pure muscle, he wouldn't really be able to use that blade offensively too often. Defensive though? He may have an advantage there. Taking gravity, the force of a swing, and muscle into the playing field, Ichigo will have to first lift that heavy sword which would take some strength to do and then put force behind the blade to swing it. If the swing misses, which it most likely will, then it will take a few seconds for Ichigo to fully ready himself for another attack, thus allowing Trunks to get a swing in while Ichigo is recovering.
Trunks wields a sort of broadsword instead. Thinner blade, lighter for faster, easier swings with better chances of guarding the attack. If Trunks misses, he can quickly recover for the next attack.
There is a thing between strength and speed. A strong character will wreck a fast one with a couple successful hits. However, there is less speed due to strength since you're putting your power into your attacks instead. A speed-based fighter will need to score multiple quick hits on the enemy to defeat them but it's worth the lack of strength in the attacks.
Now let's consider tactical advantage between Trunks' sword and Zangetsu.
Zangetsu's got range and sheer defensive power, mostly but it weighs a lot. Feeling the weight of a weapon is important but so is knowing your weapon's flaws as well.
Trunks' sword offers speed and better stability in the attacks since it is lighter. You can wield a broadsword in one hand easily.
Now for the fun part: Trunks has the advantage on this one mostly. It doesn't require much strength to use a broadsword but one would get fatigued easily with Zangetsu.
What Trunks can do is wait for Ichigo's attack, the moment it misses, if it misses, Trunks can easily get in close and strike at a range when Zangetsu can't. The fight would be in Trunks' favor as a result.
NOTE: Trying to bring animated science into real-time science does not work. Real science is important in a fight and people have to know their limits.
/argument win?

You truly are the Lord of the Rant. This is all true, but one thing you forget, Ichigo has trained and adapted to Zangetsu so the weight should be no problem for him. and another thing Ichigo doesn't have to even get close to Trunks. The episode where he was almost killed by Kenpachi and he went in his spirit and fought against the hollow within. His hollow form used the cloth of Zangetsu to spin the sword eventually whipping it at Ichigo. Ichigo could use that attack against Trunks.
*Sighs* I may regret this, but care to try again?

As I said, I'm talking real science only. Animation science and supernatural abilities don't have a thing to do in this.
A piece of cloth doesn't really serve much purpose except that of using it for clothing and other various things. *coughbondagecough*
The amount of training a person has with a weapon doesn't mean they are invulnerable. There are still some imperfections in a person that would pose a problem.
Zangetsu's Pros (Advantages):
-Raw Power
-Range (The damned thing looks to be maybe Ichigo's height. I wouldn't know even though I've only seen pieces of Bleach so I'm drawing it to scale in my mind.
Zangetsu Cons (Flaws):
-Weight distribution (Look at the weapon not as a weapon but as an object/piece of matter made from a material. Blades are made from iron. They have been since the Dark Ages/Medieval Times back when crusading was popular. There is a strange way of bringing about the correct amount of strength in carrying the sword and swinging it. That's due to the weight of the weapon. It would be kind of difficult to completely feel and understand the weight of Zangetsu.)
-Shape (Zangetsu has one odd shape for a sword. The weight is mostly placed at the bigger part of the blade itself and at the end, it would get lighter but that's if you were to take the sword and look at it cut it into pieces intentionally for investigation and studies. If you were to separate the sword into pieces equivalent in weight, you would see that the parts that match without too much trouble are the thick end of the blade and up before it actually starts curving. You then have to take the handle of the sword into consideration as it has its own weight. As a result, you would have to cut less of a thick piece of the blade to go with the handle just to add to the weight. Then there's the part where the thickness of the blade decreases quite noticeably. You have to cut more off for an equal amount of weight.)
-Range (This is both good and bad. This is a con because Zangetsu is about distance when it comes to attacking. Zangetsu would rock at long range close-quarters combat but when the enemy is just two feet away from you, it will be very difficult to attack or defend due to Zangetsu's incredible range. If two people fought with one using a Katana and the other using a short sword, the one with the short sword would just have to get in very close so the katana can't do anything. Evading an attack is easier sometimes so you would just have to take your time and understand the weight of the weapon you both using and going against.)
-Asymmetry (The blade isn't symmetrical when laid flat which will result in increased difficulty when wielding it. It's easier to wield a symmetrical blade as weight distribution is much less of a burden.)
-Low attacks are difficult. (Nuff said.)
Trunks' Sword (Pros):
-Quicker attacks (Speed is a key factor that could easily determine an outcome in a fight. Without it, you would be quite slow on the field.)
-Symmetry (It is one of the factors for wielding the sword easily. Little weight distribution is needed. I mean sure there are the handle and the tip of the blade to focus on but those are rather minor due to symmetry.)
-Lighter weight (Lighter weight means less force put into attacks and quicker reflexes when facing an attack.)
-Easy to use (It is a broadsword, after all. Normally the length of your arm from hand to shoulder.)
-Tactical advantage against very long blades
Trunks' Sword (Cons):
-Lack of range and power (Speed makes up for it though)
-Shorter distance attacks (Getting in close is important so you will have to first start either blocking or taking evasive action. With Zangetsu, Evasion would probably be best.)
-Chances of the weapon breaking slightly increased due to light weight and less surface area.
Training has nothing to do with wielding a weapon. It's the schematics of battle that count. All Trunks has to do is get in close to the point where Zangetsu is potentially useless due to its long range. The battle is over from there regardless of training.
This isn't me trying either. This is me speaking from experience with blades consider my job as an instructor of MMA and bladed combat.

Since this is a scenario of "anime" characters, not real life people. You really shouldn't take real life in consideration. This is why I say that Ichigo will win, cause I'm not taking "real science" into the battle cause it is two fantasy characters. I understand where you are coming from, the weight and size and shape of Zangetsu is really weird. It looks like a oversized kitchen knife that no 15 year old should be able to wield cause it is so damn big.
Trunks has a normal sword that can be very dangerous in an expert's hands. So taking "real science" into consideration a few deadly slashes after a dodging Ichigo's strike their will be no way for Ichigo to recover and go on the defensive.
So I got Ichigo winning in fantasy where the two anime characters belong. but I have Trunks taking it cause of the "real science" concept.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. but in my opinion there is no way in hell that Ichigo would be able to win against Trunks. That is if its a power struggle instead of just a normal swordfight.
Here is the breakdown in "my opinion."
Power: Trunks
Speed: About equal
Technique: Trunks
Experience in battle: Trunks
Innate strength: Ichigo
As you can see, Trunks has the upper hand in most of the categories.

i dont know i think trunks burning attack would either be evenly match or over power getsuga tenshou by a lil but i think ichigo's sword play is better tha trunks, but trunks has more energy attacks like finish buster, burning slash, and as i said burning attack. but it would all come down too can super saiyian/super saiyian 2/ super trunks can beat hallow ichigo idk that would be an interesting match

Sayains have skin like armor. The Getsuga Tenshou wouldn't hardly damage him, and he has to build up the destructive force, while trunks has attacks that can be shot right away.
If it were Hollow Ichigo, that would be another story:p

Exactly, you see, someone who understands
It would be a draw. Trunks wouldn't be able to see let alone sense Ichigo. Ichigo would never be able to hurt Trunks, at least until Trunks went to sleep.

Most people forget that Ichigo has done martial arts as well and that he is not as
stupid as people make him out to be! I say that Ichigo has got the power to take out any DBZ or DBGT character after all he takes on the 13 squad captains and the Espada. And Ichigo also has his Vizard form!
Ichigo will win hands down no mater what!

Animation? perhaps.
Real life? No, due to Zangetsu's flaws.
In addition, it doesn't matter how many you take on or what type of special training you've had. Such power does have a price.

First of all, this match is clearly very not thought about. Trunks vs Ichigo? A very random match.
I say Ichigo because I dislike Trunks..and it just seems like Ichigo would win.
