Once you advance in the Japanese language, writing kanji is important. Especially when you are writing a letter or essays, it is better to write kanji to show improvement and standards. Try writing the kanji and get use to it, and the strokes as well. Another important thing you must know about kanji is where did kanji come from, meaning the orginal country. And why is the kanji character written this way is very important. Once you're used to it, I'm sure you'll like to write kanji better than just hiragana. Hope you'll have fun with it^^
By the way, I'm Chinese too, so that's why I know most of the kanji characters. It's not a talent haha xD

I'm almost positive it's different. Unfortunately I can't write Kanji on this computer so I can't double-check, but I've seen both and while I can identify this one, I have to look the other one up every time I see it.

絵 can mean "drawing" but not "to draw". That's 描. (At least, I think that's the one Ertai's thinking of)

This kanji can be both noun and verb. =]
