Can anyone explain why there are many different name spellings?

I have always been kind of confused by why there are multiple ways to spell certain character's names.. for example:

Syaoran has:

Syaoran
Shaoran
Shaolin
Xiao-Lang

And also

Li
Lee


While Kero has:

Cerberus
Keroberos
Kerberos

Spinnel Sun has:
Suppie
Soupie

Touya has:
Toya
Touya



And also in TRC..

Faye has:
Fye
Fai
Faye


Does anyone know why there are different versions of the names? Is it based on reigon or something?? I know some of the changes are from the manga to the anime's, but some I have just seen different people using, etc.

So do I. I have one note though; Xiao-Lang is actually Syaoran's Chinese name, I think. And I think sometimes Toya is used when Yukito is talking to Touya because of the way he says it in the anime, even in a translation that usually uses Touya. Not sure abouth either of those, but....

I think its coz d pronounciation during translation... Well I don't matter anyway as long as I can understand it... -_^

It's because diffrent countries translate the names diffrent.

Examples:

Syaoran=Japanese
Shaoran=German
Shaolin=not sure,but it could be Korean
Xiao-Lang=Probably Chinese
Li and Lee are his last names.Lee is Japanese and Li is Korean or Chinese.

Cerberus=English,apparently
Keroberos=Korean
Kerberos=German

Touya=Japanese
Toya=German

Syaoran has:

Syaoran = Japanese translation converted to Chinese
Shaoran= Pretty much the same...
Shaolin = one of the Chinese kung fu groups.
Xiao-Lang = Chinese (written as "little wolf")

And also

Li = cos his last name is Li, it's a mainland Chinese way of spelling.
Lee = Cantonese way of spelling.


Touya has:
Toya
= To"u"ya is pronounced as "tooya", and Toya is pronounced just as Toya.
It could be complicated sometimes. Just like Tokyo and Kyoto, in Hiragana, it's written as "to u kyo u" and "kyo u to".
