I just got done watching a few episodes of Code Geass. In it, the name for the giant bots is a knightmare Frame (maybe it is nightmare), or I guess maybe a frame.
Ok, from Gundam on down there is a name for your robot in a series...
Code Geass - Frame
Patlabor- labors
Appleseed- landmate (I liked that one sounds like an Australian came up with it)
Gundam- Mobile Suit
Eureka7 - LFO -Light Finding Operation (somewhat funny sounding name, but cool enough)
Big O- MegaDeuce (I find this one somewhat funny for another reason)
Full metal Panic- Arm Slaves
Evangelion- same name abbreviated to Evas
Anyhow you get the idea.
So if you had a giant mecha story, what names are left to use? or what would be fun?
I for one, would probably name my giants, B.A.R.s
Why bars?
Big A__ Robots.
Because lord knows that is what they are.
I guess there could be a variation G.A.R.s
Anyhow, anyone else have a unique unused name?

TenAcks...
for Tenshi X Akuma...
There's another obvious reason
(Hint: rhymes with...
Syn/Ack )
kinda silly, I know :)
I'll try to think of better ones...

lol Yeah, that would work. Actually I bet that is not too far off.
Wonder if it would end up being tacks after a while.

Slaves. You know, kind of like Labor.
I had an idea once where the name of each mecha is taken from a work by Faulkner. Light in August, The Sound and the Fury, Fable, Knight's Gambit...

Nice. I have not heard that anime mentioned in a long time. Pretty good and a great soundtrack.

you need to put a copyright on that :D
I thought of naming them after Chess pieces.
Rook,
Bishop
Queen
Pawn (that would be the small mecha that might end up as cannon fodder)
Oh, and was Armor van a name of a mecha? I never saw GunXSword.

ATTs.
armed to the teeth! I like Moble suit, from gundam. Simple, strait to the point, and sounds like a stock broker would have one.(excuse my spelling.)

most of them are just referred to as Nightmares. The full name actually varies with the model. Nightmares are the traditional name for the Britanian Army's Mechs while the Rebel's Mech's are usually just called Frame's but are very rarely even referred to with a name.

Confirming:
-It's Knightmare, they're trying to be "cool" like that.
-MegaDeuce is Greek/Latin/whatever for "Great God", good idea but sounds too much like MegaDoosh.

Bipedal machines?
Mechanised suit?
Walking tanks?
Metal giants?
"Metal... Gear?" <_<
Srsly, the general term mecha/mechs just stuck.
When functioning mecha become reality, that's when there will be all sorts of interesting names for them.
Walkers maybe?
Armoured combat walkers?
Anyhow, it's just speculation.
