If you could bring back one dead game company, which would it be -- and why?

For me it's a choice between Black Isle Studios (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Isle_Studios) and Looking Glass Studios (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looking_Glass_Studios). Because they were behind some of the best, most groundbreaking PC games ever created (System Shock, Thief, Fallout, Baldur's Gate, etc.)

Oh,and I miss Westwood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westwood_Studios) too.

Not dead companies but I'd like to split Square Enix back into SquareSoft and Enix. Ever since their join, RPGs made by them have (usually) been repetitive and boring, with no new concepts or a stupid mix of concepts. That and they're destroying my favorite game series like the Mana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mana_%28game_series%29) series. Final Fantasy has gone downhill since 9 too.

Khanxay have you even played FF X-2 or FF XII?
They have got nearly perfect scores on any site, any review magazine, any user opinion. They are way better than the old ones. (FF VIII was a good one though).

But as the topic .. I'm not familiar with any dead companies, but I wish Camelot would hear the fans and quit doing sports games and go back to RPG's. (Golden Sun series?)

Yes. All the way through.

That doesn't affect my opinion at all. Halo 3 and GTA San Sandreas had 10 on GI. So what? I mean, I'll play the games still.

I agree that they ruined Mana series, but Final Fantasyes are just getting better and better. [[Exept FF XI ofc]]
I'm not going to start arguing, but you should check out some other RPG's, like Chrono Cross, Kingdom Hearts or some RPG's for handhelds.

Though, honestly, review sites/magazines are either getting payed by game companies to write overly enthusiastic articles, or a reflection of the new generation of gamers who have no appreciation for the history of gaming, and wouldn't know a good game if it punched them in their face (not that they often do that).

Some of them are indeed doing paid reviews, like Gamespot. They even fired three reviewers after one company asked them why did their game get so low score. [Kane and Lynch]
But I've never heard magazines reviewers are getting paid nor gamers themselves. o_O
Seriously, if about 80% of the gamer reviews score were 9.0 and up .. well, that's enough for me to buy it. :p

Chrono Cross? That was a Playstation RPG made by Squaresoft, which I proudly own (partially shared by a friend though) and still play.

And I do play Kingdom Hearts, although I feel that 2 wasn't as good as the first.

You lost me a "FF VIII was a good one". No. Just no. FF IV-VI or nothing.

It's worth tracking down, assuming you like semi-historical 15th century RPGs set in what is now Germany) MoO 1&2, MoM, Pirates! Gold, Railroad Tycoon, Worms Armageddon, X-Com series... I'm gonna cry.

And now that they have been absorbed by the mighty EA pseudopod, I'll say BioWare. We miss you.

My choice is Looking Glass Studios...They made excellent games like thief and system schock...
If I could bring them back I would let them make another thief 3, because this game hasnīt got the quality the former games got.

While Black Isle live on in a way under the banner of Obsidian, they now seem better at making entertaining yet grossly incomplete games (Neverwinter Nights 2, Knight of the Old Republic 2).

I agree with seeing Looking Glass come back from the dead, as well as Ion Storm.

As for Bioware, I really did wish they would come back to doing their flagship titles of NWN and KoTOR, although Dragon Age does look like it would be wonderful.

I'd like to see Telenet Japan/Nihon Telenet...I liked the Valis series (before it went all hentai). I say this mainly because I liked their Wolf Team division. The developed games like Arcus Odyssey, Granada, and El Viento. Wolf Team is the reason that NAMCO's Tales series exists. The creator of Tales of Phantasia then went on to form tri-Ace (Star Ocean & Valkyrie Profile) with two other Wolf Team members. Wolf Team eventually became part of NAMCO known as NAMCO Tales Studio.
