Well recently I downloaded GIMP and have been teaching myself how to use it so I've just been messing around and (as the title says) experimenting with things. I thought I'd show you what I come up with while I play around with GIMP ^.^;

(Yes, I know the sizes are kinda wierd and probably way too big, I'm still trying to find a good size to work with -.-) This one was made most recently and the last one was made first.

I didnt expect them to be any good so obviously they aren't XD
I'd just like a few comments on what I should change or improve on while I mess around with GIMP ^.^

First sig - Well, I guess you could have made the text at the bottom the same colour as the text at the top, so people can see it. It is a good try for your first sig using GIMP.

Second sig - All you need to do is move the text, so the question mark isn't hidden by the border. I love this one a lot Kit!! :)

Third sig - It's just so kawaii and the girl is very pretty. I like the colours that you chose and the text is really good.

For a sig, as long as you keep in mind to not make them as big as a wallpaper then you're good to go.^-^

Nice to see you making sigs now. Good job for a first try. You'll want to get some new fonts though, add a little variety to the mix.XD

Yeah, GIMP has a surprisingly slim choice for fonts, they all look the same o.O And I guess I made them so big because I didnt want to shrink the renders down too much. Plus I wanted more room to experiment with =3

Thanks for the comments, Kuro! ^.^

I can't wait for more awesome siggies from you Kitsune :)

With time, patience and practice, you'll get even better than you are now.

Very nice work, I hope to see more from it, I'm even considering downloading GIMP myself seeing the results. The current blend of Photoshop and Paint.Net isn't cutting it at this point, lol. Post more please ^_^

Thank you guys for bearing with me while I still learn to navigate around GIMP ^.^; Thanks for your comments too, of course.

Well I tried making a new set, this time a little smaller ^.^; Here's what I came up with. Still havent gotten any new fonts yet >.<

I think its needs way more flow than just a duplication of the render blurred int other background. Try some more original style. Check some tutorials or browse through DeviantArt's piles of stuff. Good render choices though overall.

Kitsune, you're doing great already with Gimp and you just got it. Much better than I can. I'll never understand Gimp. ;_;

Anyway, you're well on your way to being an awesome Gimp user already. I already like those sets you made already. Soon, you should start adding some more cool effects and designs to them, but keep up the good work dear.<333

I finally stopped using the shadowy thing, now that someone mentioned I should use filters (Who was very nice, and I wish they would have left their name so I could re-pay them with points or reps =/)
Anyways, here's the resulting... thing:

By the way, I'm not looking for comments like "It sucks." or "I like it." tell me how I can improve so it doesnt look as bad ^.^;

now that someone mentioned I should use filters

That was me. (GMGD) I kinda clicked add rep before I realized I forgot to add my name.

My main complaint for most that you have shown so far is that you keep cutting off the top of the characters head. Either scale them or resize them to get them to fit better. (That's actually my personal preference. You don't have to do that)

For the background you can try duplication of the render and maybe Gimpressionist? Even now and then I do that and get a result I like. Or play randomly with the filters in different orders. My usual start for a background is a duplication of the render,cubism, directional blur, and a bit of sharpen (40-50ish.)

Go to DaFont and get some fonts there, create a separate fonts folder somewhere and set up your preferences to load them.

Oh, and try learning how to use guides. I think it's under View? They really help out aligning stuff like text.

Just some ideas from a fellow learning Gimpist. =]

Yeah, the decapitation of my renders in mostly coincidence. Most of the images that I take the renders from already have the tops of their heads not included in the image >.>

I've been playing around with the GIMPressionist thing and I've found a few settings and brushes I like. I downloaded new fonts and brushes but they wont appear on the font/brush selection thing so I have to fix that before I can use them.

Oh, and thank you very much for all the useful advice =3

Massive improvements on the new set. That was a big jump there.^-^ I like the consistency of the sig with the theme and the blending is well done. Though in the avi, the eye looks a tad too stretched. Still, good set.

The size that i normally use is 350x125. However, It's been so long since I made signatures, and my computer crashed T_T. I'm too lazy to re-install photoshop. but good job on those! Looks awesome. :)

Kitsune-chan!! You've really improved! I like your last set! but the words for the sig is kind of hard to read.. I'll be what what right by your side...?? but I like the background for the sig!!
and for the avy, I think you stretched the faces..?? I think if you do that, it will become blurry.. that's a mistake that I always make T_T oh well, I wanna see more!! <333333333

M-hm, the text says "I'll be all alone, right by your side" it spunds stupid but thats the only thing I could think of that kinda went with the render ^.^;
The eye is all stretched because it's uber-hard to make a perfect triangle that will still include all of the eye. So I had to stretch it a lot to make it fit into the corner =/
I'll remember not to stretch it as much next time though ^.^;

I have the GIMP too ^^;;
I like them! They look great so far! Though, the only thing I don't really like is the text, though that's always the hardest part >.< Great work, can't wait to see some more! ^__^! (I like the 2nd one the best!)
